I'm allergic to peanuts, all nuts actually, and this is just a pretty interesting little story.

report came out that she didnt die of an allergic reaction, it was due to the lack of oxygen going into her brain.

i have been saying for a while now that parents need to stop chasing their kids around with a can of lysol. if the kid never gets sick, bad things will happen. i dont mean i plan on taking my kids to the landfill or a pit toilet to play hide and seek, but i think kids need to be exposed to common things. when i have kids, i am hoping they are still extremely young when someone from daycare gets the chicken pox, because i will let my child mingle with the sick one so he/she gets it over with. i barely remember having chicken pox because i was so young.
my boyfriend has had asthma from birth, as far as anyone can tell. because of this, he was kept locked up most of his childhood. i am starting to think that this has contributed to his many allergies, although his mom is also allergic to cats... since kids inherit antibodies from mom, i think he picked it up from her... he doesnt recall ever eating sunflower seeds, and since they can almost kill his mom, i am quite worried. although, since sunflower seeds/oil are so common (at least i think they are), i wonder if he is just fine with them.

some of what you said is correct, some not.
the article is half right as well. SOME exposure to allergens at a young age seem to be protective, dogs for example. SOME exposure to other allergens seem to promote being allergic to that allergen later in life - examples are nuts, fish, cats.

I agree that some parents shelter their kids from things. BUT if you know that your son has asthma that is triggered by certain things, avoiding those triggers will help him not die. I would have him avoid those triggers for sure.
chicken pox is being vaccinated against now, so ideally not many little kids should get it before their immunization

i should have been a little clearer... when i said my boyfriend was locked up a lot as a child, i meant he was not encouraged to go outside and play with other kids for fear of him running too much, so he spent a lot of time indoors playing video games and not being around many kids. this lack of activity lead to him being overweight, and being overweight just made the asthma worse.. it just went in a circle. when he got a bit older, he started doing things for himself and realized that physical activity was not so bad a previously thought.
im just wondering that if excercise had been encouraged, even controlled excercise and not just running all over town, if the asthma wouldnt have been as bad. i guess it gets worse if you are overweight, and i think that lead to many of his problems.

and i didnt even know chicken pox was being vaccinated against now. i guess i had no reason to look in to it... i wont be having kids for a few years yet.

My parents brought my brother and I up trying to make sure that if we were sick, that our bodies took care of it before going to the doctor or taking medications for it. If it got out of hand then something was done, but I very rarely get sick when the rest of my family do.

My wife on the other hand was brought up that whenever something was remotely wrong with her, she was vaccinated or injected with meds, given antibiotics and all of that other good shit. Now her health is a fucking joke, her immune system is weak and she gets sick so much it's ridiculous..

It's not like parents are expected to dump there kids in a bath full of Anthrax, but how are kids supposed to build up immune systems if their bodies aren't even exposed to anything?

If I ever have kids I'm making sure that it knows that it's only going to the doctor if it can get there itself.
