GreenCheck - monitors most freebie sites' statuses
gnznroses

My program has been out for more than 3 months now, but I never posted a thread here about it, cause I'm not sure if it's allowed. I've read the rules of course, but I dunno. Do what you want with the thread. If it's not OK to post the link to my site where you can download it (since my site is designed to get me refs), you can just download it here
http//www.soft32.com/download_128094.html
I'm result #1 when you google for "monitor freepay account status" too )
Anyways, it monitors Freepay, Trainn, Offercentric, any site that runs on FSRS (eg OrderIt4Free or GetFriends), plus a few more. Most sites it can tell you your order status, but not on OfferCentric yet. it does tell you your number of greens and yellows on all sites tho. The app stays in the tray and checks however often and you can get email notifications if you want.
It'll also automatically create nifty little images for your sig or whatever, which are dynamically updated.
I honestly think this is the best site-monitoring app, but I'm improving it all the time. If you have any suggestions let me know.

OC guy just said they are planning on releasing a webpage where you can check the status of all the site you are signed up under. i think other freebie sites should follow.
gnznroses
18-03-2006 17:44:09
yeah, they should. tho if you sign up for a lot of sites you'd still hafta check each seperately. i haven't done any trades in a whilw, but when i first got started i would have several on-going trades at once and it's annoying keeping track of when people (and myself) green. so i like these monitoring apps. and i can never settle for using other people's stuff so i made my own.
oh and any interest ina Mac version? i've got a surprising amount of demand for one so far, but i'm hoping someone else will be interested in the conversion cause i don't feel like doing...

Does this software run on stored cookies to log in or will it allow you to input your password for logging in?

the GUI is awful.
not sure about the program tho, i guess if it works, it works.
gnznroses
20-03-2006 10:42:43
yeah, GUI hasn't been my big concern so far. mostly just adding as many sites as i can has been.
Fugger, you enter your email addy and password in the settings dialog. (and for FSRS sites you also enter your username). if you use the same email/password on all sites that's all you need to do. if not you can set up a seperate email/pass for each specific sites.
it doesn't use cookies, it logs you in each time. except for freepay. i can't get freepay to accept a log-in the way other sites will, so it logs you in once using an embedded webbrowser control, which creates a cookie. then after that it uses inet (sorry for being technical, but only way to explain it really) to download your status. should your cookie expire tho it'll re-log you in. the login is slower than inet so that's why it does that.
-edit-
oh, mentioning GUI reminds me, i never did add support for XP styling... i need to do that... it'll make it look a bit better.
-edit-
dunno how i've forgotten to add support for XP visual styles, but here ya go (right-click, choose save target as)
http//bashfreebieguide.com/temp/GreenCheck.exe.manifest[=http//bashfreebieguide.com/temp/GreenCheck.exe.manifest]http//bashfreebieguide.com/temp/GreenCheck.exe.manifest
just stick that file in your GreenCheck directory.
i'll include it in the next release, but for now you can add it yourself )
-edit again-
oh, here's an example of the dynamic image feature

http//bashfreebieguide.com/mystatus/gnznroses.gif[" alt=""/imgc36e0f0f2a]
i thought about adding an option to change the branding from "Provided by BashFreebieGuide.com" to something like "Generated by GreenCheck" for forums that won't allow anything with a web address in it. i dunno if the sig would fly around here. like A4F lets people use it, but GOG doesn't.

I've been using GreenReporter from Archon, but since he hasn't updated it since its a bit buggy. I just installed it and I ran the program and keep getting this error "Component MSWINSCK.OCX or one of its dependencies not correctly registered a file is missing or invalid."

actually, they're both on the same page.

i'm updating GreenCheck right now. here's what i've done so far
- Made FreePay sites work with new site layout
- When right-clicking a FreePay site in the status list, after it has been checked, the date you must finish the site by will appear in the context menu
- Updated OfferCentric sites to log in correctly after a site change
- Fixed an overflow error when viewing the returned page and the page being more than 30-some thousand characters long
However I haven't released it yet 'cause I have a question or two
1. What's the deal with OfferCentric asking for a username now and not an email? I still log in using my email address but do new accounts choose a username instead? If so, can new accounts also log in with an email address?
2. This isn't as important, but what does Freepay say now when you're under approval? After you've ordered it says "Thank you for your order, it is now being processed" plus a few more sentences. But I don't have any account waiting for approval to check that.
3. Someone told me OrderIt4Free doesn't work. I added it to the program with the disclaimer that I wasn't sure, but it looks like it runs FSRS, tho a modified version.

a Mac version? i planne don making one a lil while back but decided it'd be too time consuming. it wouldn't take a really long time, i just have more important things to do. but if anyone knows VB and wants to port the project to Mac and Linux using RealBasic, let me know.

someone on the A4F board got it running on linux using a Windows emulator. there's emulators that run on Macs too.
oh, and someone mentioned, in another thread, the app's listing on batchconverter.com's software archive. note tho that the description on there is way, way wrong, cause i'd accidentally put the description of another app (i sell) after GC's. Greencheck does not prevent people from installing software or doing any of that other crazy crap... ) i emailed and see if they'll update it since a search for "freepay monitor" gives that result at like, number 4.

I don't do enough sites to use it but looks pretty slick, nice work. One of my partners programmers can probably convert it for everyone if it's still needed. Won't be overnight but I can have him put in some time here and there as time allows. Probably won't take too long.

lol, it should. did it crash? usually it just enters the status as "problem logging in".
btw, this does work on linux if you run it through WINE. i ahve instructions on my website. you can download the sourcecode from there as well (it's VB, not C tho). the source posted right now is from the prior version. haven't gotten around to updating it, but i'm gonna wait cause i'll be releasing another update real soon, cause i screwed up the aplhabetical sorting of the available sites list.

Just a question How often is this program updated? I noticed that it doesn't have some of the newer sites, like GoldenFreebies and Ultimate Freebies. Or even the OGF network.
Also, for some reason, the auto check doesn't seem to work.
gnznroses
23-02-2007 20:08:39
i update it quite often. i count 27 versions since December '05.
a lot of the networks i just never added because they're small and less popular and because i don't have accounts with them to see how their site reports different statuses. but, since a lot of new sites these days just use the same design, it's not hard to add more.
another reason the new networks are not added is because the program ties in with my websites, Bash Freebie Guide, and i don't like to add any site to my guide unless i can count on it being legit. Too many new of the networks come and go.
With all that said tho if there's an established site that is not supported, I'm open for recommendations.
I'll look into OrderGiftsFree and see if they have the same design/script as others.
moviemadnessman
23-02-2007 20:16:58
I see. I can see why the newer/smaller networks might not be on there, but some like OGF and YGF could probably be added. I understand that things take time though, so honestly, no rush.
But, any idea why it doesn't automatically check when I set it to? I have it set to automatically check every 15 minutes, and it hasn't checked since I manually looked. It says 'Checking' but then doesn't actually do anything else, it just freezes almost.
Any Ideas? Thanks.
Also - The following links do not take you to their sites
AnyGift4Seven ... should be seven.anygift4free.com
NoCC.COT ... should be noncc.customorderthis.com
FCA AppleiPhone ... should be www.appleiphone4free.com
FCA Freeipodbundles ... should be www.freeipodbundles.com
Free4me 50 ... should be www.50.free4me.net
Getmanyfriends can be removed ...
Trainn flashipods ... should be www.flashipods4free.com
I think it would be cool if a user could mark a site as completed, so it could be moved to its own list ... like, not be in the big list, but not get checked every time, too. I dunno; just a thought.
gnznroses
11-03-2007 15:30:37
hmm, I'll check on it when I get time. I haven't actually ran the program in the background in a long, long time, but I just figured it still worked as usual. Maybe I broke something at some point...
I'll also update/fix those sites that you pointed out.
Thanks

Ok, so ... now that there is an update to this, of course I went and tried it out. Here are a few things I've noticed as of this moment
1. The Getstuff4free links all have the ".com"url==http://=http:///url ending, when they should be ".org".url==http://=http:///url Hence, an error occurs when checking those sites.
2. I haven't noticed any other errors yet (because I haven't tried some of the other sites), however, my only other suggestion for the next update...would there be any way to make a section so that you can mark a site as completed? That way it isn't available, but it isn't being checked all the time, too?
All in all this is a really good program to use, at least for those times when you are looking for a quick check of your sites.
I will continue to test this out and give you feedback. That's the way to make it better )

Maybe there is something missing on your computer. It should run just fine for multiple sites. I would PM gnznroses and ask him about it directly. It sounds like you might be missing a plugin or something that the program needs, but isn't vital enough for your computer to necessarily need.

for anyone else with the prob, please post the needed info and i'll try to fix it. what i need is the last few lines of debug text and the name of the site you are checking at the time. if needed i can add some more debug text to narrow down the problem. most likely the status of your account is somehow different than what it's expecting.

ok. updated the app again. turns out it wasn't even checking the sites cause it was leaving off the subdomains....
also, i counted and it supports 128 different sites now (!)

Negative. Still getting the exact same error for the Macro sites. Although I do like the longer (yet more helpful) error message. Also ... the Getstuff4free sites still end in .com,url==http://=http:///url so they also error out.
One last thing When checking the OrderGiftsfree sites, it will get the data. However, in the debug, this sometimes shows up
OrderGiftsFree Shoes
logging in...
Error getting data Wrong protocol or connection state for the requested transaction or request
Parsing data
Parsing data (2)
Done
However, it will still get the information, so it isn't as big of a problem. Yet. But I noticed it happened about half the times I ran the program...it didn't make sense that it is still getting the data though.
These are the things I have noticed ...

Also It's "checking" so I can't add any sites. As soon as I entered my info it just started "checking"

Then close the program and restart it. That should fix that issue.

It is unselected, but it keeps doing the checking thing when I re-start the program (
GOD I feel dumb.

25-04-2007 11:07:26
hmm, i dunno what the problem could be with the checking.
are you sure tho that getstuffforfree is using .comurl==http://=http:///url still? i don't have an account with them, but i can debug the program up to the point it tries to log in and it's trying .orgurl==http://=http:///url for me.
-edit-
oh, and i was able to check 40.macrobucks just fine. not sure why it would fail for you.
moviemadnessman
25-04-2007 12:10:55
I don't know about why Marcobucks gives me an error. And I viewed the log file created when the program crashes for the Getstuff sites, and it is trying to check the right place (all have the site.org/login.php). However, when you select "Goto Site", it tries to load a .comurl==http://=http:///url site instead of .org.url==http://=http:///url This is most curious...
gnznroses
25-04-2007 13:50:44
it saved a log? heh, i didn't even know/remember that...
the Goto Site thing is happening on my webserver. i fixed it just now.

Well, it now goes to the site. Still doesn't get the info, though, at least not for me. I don't really know why ... oh well.

Ok, here we go ... I got the program running, once I knew where to place it. Got a "Type Mismatch" error for Getstuff4Free $100. Here is the debug report
GetStuff4Free 100
finalurl=100.getstuff4free
logging in...
domain&address=100.getstuff4free.org/login.php

tmpstring(green?)=No
Parsing data (2)
tmpLng(prize reqs)=0
tmpLng1()=0
tmpstring(num refs)=TP/
tmpLng2(next )=0

It is the same with the Macrobucks sites as well. Hopefully this will tell you what is going wrong...or help us narrow the problem )

been busy and haven't worked on it, and then tonight i decided i would, but i realized i need another bit of info the html source of the page, so i'll know what it's reading. if you could reproduce the error, then right-click the site and select View Log, and copy that info, i can fix it. you can email it, PM me, whatever. just make sure you edit your password from the log, cause it probably shows up in the data it sends in order to log you in. (of course i don't even need the login page data, just the final result)

I also have been away ... friend had a bad accident on friday. But, I sent you the document over AIM containing the log file, hopefully it can help you fix this.
gnznroses
06-05-2007 20:01:23
got it (as you know ;)) and looke dover it. first i noticed it was checking 40.com instead of 40.macrobucks.com, so i fixed that but it still doesn't work. i have no idea what can cause this particular problem so hopefully someone else will... it's returning a webpage saying
Invalid character in http//40.macrobucks.com/login.php
The URL can only contain alphanumerics plus the following characters /.,=_-
makes no sense cause obviously that's a valid url...
and the only thing different from macrobucks - which doesn't work (tho it was for me before) - and my site - which does, is the url. i compare the log of data sent to each site and they're exactly th same besides the url. it's really odd...
