Why won't my iPod show up on my new mac?!

My iPod will not show up on my iMac. It shows up for like 5-10 seconds and then disappears from the desktop. I used it with a PC before, I don't know if that is it. The iPod shows up in iTunes, with all my songs there, however it will not show up as a disk drive. I clicked enable disk drive in iTunes and it still doesn't work. I'm sure it's something really simple that I am just missing, but I can't figure it out. I downloaded a program to rip all the songs off of my iPod onto this computer, but it still will not come up. It says, "iPod not found."
Any suggestions?

did you try unchecking the 'enable disk mode' box then re-checking it? What about if you click your computer icon in the finder rather than looking for the ipod to show up there? I know for me I've had a fw device show up under the Computer icon, but not in the finder side panel...

I think iPods are incompatible with Macs.

If you've been using it on a PC and nothing else, you have to re-format it to be compatible with Macs. Unfortunately you can't have both, it either has to be formatted for Windows or a Mac. (

nah, it shouldn't matter, the mac can read ntfs and dos. windoze can't read journaled hfs+ which the mac uses.

[quote8d8caa43bb]Question I have both a Mac and a PC. Will my iPod work on both?
Answer No, not at the same time. iPod is configured for either Mac or PC. You can use the iPod Updater to restore iPod to work with a Mac or a PC (depending on which version of the updater you use). See "Restoring iPod to factory settings" for more information. Note Using the iPod for Mac on a PC, or using the iPod for Windows on a Mac, is not supported by Apple. FAT32 is the format used by Windows, and while some FAT32 iPod models may work with your Mac, Apple only supports using the iPod shuffle in FAT32 format on Mac. For more information see the iPod shuffle Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ).[/quote8d8caa43bb]

Mine is PC-enabled but works on my Mac. However, it does take little longer to do anything, including turning it on (there's like a two-five second lag).

I've used PC formatted ipods on Macs numerous times. My ipod is Mac formatted and will not work on friend's pcs.
This is what I was thinking;
[quotecceddcb2c8]Question Can I use an iPod formatted for Mac on a PC, or an iPod formatted for Windows on a Mac?
Answer It is not possible to use an iPod formatted for Mac with Windows. This is because Windows does not support the HFS Plus file system and therefore will not see the drive.[/quotecceddcb2c8]
have you updated the ipod to the latest firmware?
update ur itunes to the newest version...

You do have to reformat your pod for mac, which means you'll lose all of your data.

Macs use regular old tcp/ip so yes, they work fine together. if you have windows sharing on for the mac it's fine.

under system preferences/sharing, turn on windows sharing and personal file sharing. it should tell you your computer name or ip address which you can access from the pc. the easiest way to copy music from the mac would be to mount the pc by hitting command+k at the finder and typing smb//pcipaddress or computer name. you should then be able to browse the pc and copy files over.
