So I've been on this forum for a few weeks and involved in the "freebie scene" to a degree.

I am writing an article on the internet "freebie scene" that will see print in the Philadelphia Inquirer's technology section as well as other papers around the country.

I have been writing about internet "scenes" for a few years now and have delved into the social networking (myspace etc), live music trading (jamband community) and the open source programming communities.

I am focusing on Freepay and TRAINN but will explore other sites as well. Right now I've finished 2 freepays sites (only 1 now, had a green go grey) and 1 TRAINN site and after these are complete I plan to do a few more.

Where else should I look? I am considering OfferCentric as well as a few cash sites to widen my perspective of this all.

If you have any insight into the scene or have been part of it for a long time feel free to PM me with any stories or experiences. I am not looking for "hey I got 3 ipods, a psp and a laptop for free!" but more along the lines as what kind of time you spend on each offer, any unique ways you get referrals (if you want to share them) or anything else you can think of.

Thanks for your time

OC can be expensive to finish with OOD. DIY is a good direction since its extremely popular right now.

Well you could look into Offercentric to show contrasting business practices between Freepay and Offercentric. lol

Order4Free Network is great. I got $1,000 Paypal from them a few weeks ago and I'd say they are the next best site/network behind Freepay and Trainn.

Thanks for the tips guys. I'm definitely going to check out Order4Free

Right now I think TRAINN is going to get the most free positive press. I've been very impressed with them so far.

Freepay I've yet to reach a complete conclusion on so far. I've talked to people that hate it and people that are in love with it. My experience so far has been so-so...but it's way too early to make a complete judgement.

haha, don't think that hasn't crossed my mind. Like making a domain that just has a list of links and referencing it in the article.

Not going to happen though ;-) as tempting as it sounds.

How about I make it worth you're while and you sneak it in after your editor checks it. http//forum.freeipodguide.com/smilies_mod/upload/b54322a073cb529ad8a5d92070da57b5.gif[" alt=""/img584c1432fe]

ahh that blows, we can go to anything we want at school actually

EDIT I forgot about myspace, if you go on that it turns your speakers up and makes this siren noise, it also locks your computer. Pretty freaky to have one go off right next to you sometimes...

well, ive heard that freepay is a little off now-a-days because they have so many customers and its hard for them to keep up....they've always been good with me.....and Jake, the owner of the site, has been pretty fast in fixing the problems that ive had...

there have been thousands of articles written, from cheap sites to magazines, trainn only has one e mag article, but freepay has tons.

I am aware of this. I never said this was something new.

I've never seen a detailed discussion in the mainstream papers though. If you can point me to one, i'd appreciate it. All I've seen is specific business profile type articles and vague discussions on the topic.

In fact I wasn't planning on outting myself as a writer on here, but I figured that I would benefit from some discussions with veterans of the scene. I appreciate everyone that has PM'd me with their kind words and stories.

there is nothing wrong with offercentric

try out their nano and video ipod sites and you can roll through them just as fast as other networks, approval of your account in a couple days, and gift fullfillment within a week or two.

what more could you ask for?

megotcash

24-02-2006 19:43:22

yeah, try some DIY sites...a different spin on things...and no need for friends.

on another subject... so, are we somewhat of a jon katz writer? you said you had been writing articles for years on the internet "scene", and i would love to read them. do you have links to any articles or what not? D
