I have a 4 G iPod (20 GB version), and as I was switching songs today, the screen froze. The song I was about to play (time 000) is stuck on the screen, along with the time it froze (roughly 2 hours ago). I tried resetting it going by the steps here http//docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61705 and tried plugging it into a computer, and wall outlet. It's still stuck. Is this iPod completly gone? Anyone else experienced this?

Use the ipod updater program to restore the ipod, you will lose everything on it.

If that doesn't work correctly, wait til it runs out of battery, then plug it in and try again.

It's not official until you call Apple and ask them.

But off the record, I'd say it's toast.

flip the hold switch on and off
hold center + menu to reset the ipod (like you do a pc when it freezes) hold it till the apple logo appears. can take a good 10-20 seconds

or you can run it down and plug it into power and it will reset, then if it still doesn't work let me know and i will guide you through disk mode and all its glory

d'oh, thanks for that. I was holding menu + play, not center. Resetting it works! I was looking for a good reason to upgrade to a video..darn. (

lol Hehe same thing happened to my new vid iPod I got from Trainn last Fri. It was syncing and I walked over to pick it up and I shocked the hell out of it and it sounded like the hard drive shut down. The screen was frozen and I tried following the instructions on Apple and was pressing the same buttons you were. But I reread the instructions and pressed the correct buttons the second time wink I was gonna go crazy twisted
