I'm trying to install NetWare 5.1 and it calls for a 50MB+ DOS partition and that I should boot from DOS 3.3 or higher to format my partition. It says I need a DOS partition because netware doesn't have it's own cold-boot loader so I'd need to load the server.exe from a DOS prompt. It says I'm not supposed to use the DOS that comes with win2000 or 95/98 though. Where does one get DOS to format a partition then?

Netware doesn't have it's own boot files like most other OS. Instead it uses DOS boot files (either MS-DOS or DR-DOS) When you boot off the netware cd to install it, it should include some version of DOS and will ask you what size to make the DOS partition. On the "Prepare Boot Parition" screen during installation, Select free space, then it should ask you for you DOS partition size (make it 500 MB at least)

If it doesn't (I only have installed Netware 6.5, so I'm not sure about older versions) you could probally use OpenDOS[=http//www.deltasoft.com/download.html]OpenDOS.

Are you trying to dual-boot Netware with a windows partition?

Since I can't boot from my 5.1 install disc I assumed that I would first need an install of 95/98 or nt/2000 as indicated in the book (CNA prep book). It explains how to boot from a dos boot disc which I'm able to do, but evidently I need cd-rom drivers on the dos partition or the boot disc to be able to cd to the optical drive and launch the install.exe file...any ideas?
