For privacy and security reasons, I've set up a redirection script. Using one of my other domains, all user-entered links on FiPG will now have an intermediate page in order to prevent FiPG from showing up in peoples' referrer logs.

Whenever your DNS records get stale, you'll have to re-look-up the extra domain (bar-of-soap.com) in order to access the redirect. This means a couple extra seconds of waiting. This should occur no more often than a couple times a day, depending on your configuration. I've decided that this is an acceptable price to pay.

If you notice any links not working or other errata, please let me know by posting in this thread or PMing me.

So why don't we want FiPG to show up in referrer logs?

I'm using my 1000th post to call you slow, J. P

Lol...

But why does it matter? What do we want to hide?

I'm really confused. Is this going to mess up the links in the Trade Module?

It is to prevent freebie site owners and employees from tracking where somebody clicked the link from. This is because they can come here and if they really wanted, get people in trouble for what they call walking through. Walking through to the site owners could be considered anything from saying which offers credit fast to listing which offers they did and how much they cost, and especially how easy offers are to cancel. DIY sites also forbid making massive lists of their different sites with what items they have and how many offers, like the ones we have in the DIY forum. Site owners could eventually find their way here from their logs and start closing accounts of people they think are doing this type of stuff.

It will probably never be a big deal if he didn't do this, but it is just a cautionary step just in case site owners start to get pissy. I can afford a couple seconds a day to avoid that.

Good thinking Admin ) +Karma for your programming troubles. I've seen that domain before in the e-mails I got from FiPG and didn't know wtf it was about lol

alot of sites these days are putting this feature on their links. There is a free service at http//anonym.to that people can use on their own sites if they want to have this feature without coding it into their site. I am all for stuff like this. Another extra layer between me and big corporations. )

yea..

when he was in trouble, his parents used to shove bars of soap into his mouth, so he's addicted now, kind of like heroin.

It's my handle, i've been using it forever. Usually I shorten it to 'bos'. On IRC I'm either 'ty' or 'bos', generally speaking.

since it's a meta refresh, the page visit is considered 'unreferred' and the referrer is set to "-" (just a dash).

Wait...is this going to effect refferal links? Or just where the page came from to get to the referral link?

these logs only track hyperlinks correct? What if u were browsing FIPG and u typed it in ur address bar?

This only works by clicking on links that people put either in their posts or in the trade module. Don't worry, nobody will find out you look at midget porn after visiting FiPG.

If your webhosting co. uses Apache (most likely) then you can take a look at your log files. It depends on each webhost on how you access them. Try your control panel. Or if you have FTP access look for the "logs" folder. The file is most likely named "access.log" or something to that effect.

actually, trade module links are unaffected by this.

hmm......when you google 'bar-of-soap.com', just about every hit leads here.

I think I found a bug in his script. When redirecting to a URL with a # in it, it seems to be taking it out, therefore giving a 404 on the other end.

However, if one were to view the source code of the site, they would see something like this

<head>
<!--<meta http-equiv=refresh content="0;URL=http://www.freeipodguide.com">-->
