Identify the error.

At the beginning of the [u9d35bd413c]meeting, Jack told [/u9d35bd413c]Louis that [u9d35bd413c]his conference call[/u9d35bd413c] [u9d35bd413c]had been delayed[/u9d35bd413c].

I definately did not know this one at all. See if you can get it right. My first attempt at the new SAT was mediocore, so i realized i need to prep my ass off.

What are our choices?

Powerbook

18-02-2006 17:41:25

Well this prep flashcard doesn't give you a choice per se. It does give you the answer though. Should i underline some areas?

I think "his conference" is the error since you do not know who is being reffered, Jack or Louis.

Powerbook

18-02-2006 17:45:47

nope D See this one is quite tricky. My flashcard didn't have choices. The goal of the prep was supposed to guess on your own without getting an answer choice.

correct ) I could not get that one. I think this one is a bit tricky and could go either way. I mean this was one terrible question.

Now I can see why I just got an average score. Well, I should do well on the next SAT.

my 660 made me feel like shit. I thought i had like a 700 on the math. Oh well ( . Some people can ace the SAT's, and others just don't. I didn't do grammar in english since like the 7th grade. I guess i should have found a way to prep before I took, but if I prep now there is still time D

I would be mad if I saw that because it's not an error, perse, it's more of an ambiguous statement. If it had said, "Find the ambiguity," I would have known. ;)

I'm a freshman in high school and new the answer to that because we went over that in the beginning of the year.

I totally thought that was it, but then i didnt know how you would fix it because it would then sound weird.

"At the beginning of the meeting, Jack told Louis that Jack's conference call had been delayed."

You know?

But anyway, here in the Midwest, we take the ACT. I got a 26, what does that transfer to in SAT scores?

19-02-2006 01:00:47

Yup, that's the only thing that I could find that is incorrect/ambiguous in that sentence.

I think you can choose to do either the ACT or SAT (not sure for every state, but that's how it was for me shrug). I only took the ACT. I got a good enough English score to skip all college freshman English courses. I sucked at my AP English, so I didn't get any college credit ) And I don't think you can necessarily "translate" your ACT score -> SAT. They're fairly different exams. SAT is more "common sense" or logic such as "Head is to hat as foot is to....".

I'm glad I didn't have to take the SAT. I got a 29 on the ACT. I would've broken 30 if I didn't have to take it so early in the morning.

29 is good, i heard with a 30 you get some sort of scholarship. But ive only taken it once (Im a Junoir) so I plan on working my way up, maybe taking a prep class.

BTW, head is to hat as foot is to sock lol.

19-02-2006 10:00:34

Are you taking both tests? it really depends on what school you want to do to. East Coat is ACT>SAT barely, Middle is ACT, and West Coast is SAT. Those are just perferences, doesnt mean much, but always good to supply a school with what they prefer or are used to. on ACT, just be quick. on SAT, just practice.

I'd change the whole sentence structure up.

At the start of the meeting, Jack informed Louis, his colleague, that their conference was delayed by an hour.

or

At the start of the meeting Jack, who has a penchant for buisness meeetings, reluctantly informed Louis that their meeting was delayed,.

I know you were trying to be a showoffy jackass, but both of your sentences change the meaning of the sentence. So, you are wrong.

P.S. I hate to be an ass...wait no I don't, take it just like I wrote it.

Daggoth

19-02-2006 16:42:20

I agree with HumanMan on the part of changing the sentence's meaning. You are not changing structure if you are adding words that were not there before/ change the meaning of the entire sentence.

I've been watching Family Guy too much. I read "Louis" as "Lois" and thought a guy and a girl were talking, so it wouldn't be ambiguous....shit.

How about akalic is only 16 and can only dream of making more than $10 an hour.

or

It may be a long time before Akalic sees any job willing to pay him more than $10 an hour thus he's stuck posting on these forums when he's just bored. goodspeed has a job that pays him well and only posts when he's at work. Thus it's like Goodspeed is getting paid while he types this and akalic is just a loser who has nothing better to do during his free time..

Oh wait by the way I was talking about American dollars you socialist.

I think 35 out of about 420 and I got a 26 on the ACT. But i dont think your rank and your scores are very in-sync. I mean, some people are smart and good at taking tests but have a terrible rank because they dont do their homework.
