OK, I'm thinking about getting a Canon Rebel XT. Am I making the right choice?
Also, I heard the lense is crap. Should I just get the body kit and then get a separate lense (if so, what lense) or should I just get the one that comes with it?

depends on what you mean by crap, in comparsion to normal cameras its good, though when compared with the L lens its is crap.
if your budget is around 200-250 go with the
Canon 28-105 F/3.5-4.5
If you have a lot of money go for the
Canon 17-85 F/4-5.6 IS ($550 amazon)
or
Canon 17-40 F/4L ($700 amazon) (Add another lens to cover all the focal ranges)
Also get a Canon 50mm F/1.8 prime lens, around $70 but one of the sharpest lens you can get.
I dont like off brands so i did not mention sigma or tamron lenses.
If you want a telephoto lens get the
Canon 70-200 F/4L ($580 amazon)
If you really have money get the
Canon 70-200 F/2.8L (over 1K)

wow, great response. +KMA XD
anyway, so these are my thoughts from your response. Canon Rebel XT body + Canon 28-105 F/3.5-4.5 + Canon 50mm F/1.8 prime lens
think that'll be good?

That would be one sweet combo. Dont forget UV filers and a len hood for the 28-105.
You can probably get the rebel XT for high 600's to low 700's (with lens kit) and you can sell that lens kit for around $60-$70 on ebay. I personally own the 17-85 IS lens and i'd say its a really nice lens, though could be sharper. (IS is a nice feature though, i can do .6 sec shutter with no blur)

Abes of Maine has good prices, but i'm extreamly bias against them due to a bad first experience. (Sent me wrong idea, a very rude CSR that cant even speak proper english)

Get the camera first and pratice with the lens kit
BTW after the camera you need to buy a case, memory (512mb suggested, 512mb~130 shots), and a spare battery (useful), you can also get a wireless remote for the camera, and you may want a tripod to lol

compfreak what do you know about the nikon equivalent of the canon rebel?
How would you compare the two?
A buddy of mine had a really nice nikon SLR, i'm not sure which one. However he had a brand new nikon lens, he insisted that nikon makes the best lens in the world. It was very nice and had a built in gyroscope for auto balancing when taking long exposure shots.

Items4You. wink
Your best bet is a custom order on one of kerms' sites. The XT would be about 26 refs, Rebel 300D would be about 16.
D70 maybe 18-20 and the D50 maybe 16-18? shrug

I dunno, not yet anyway but I might. By the time I'm done I'd probably be able to get my 20D since it's dropping in price pretty quickly.

Thanks, I already have a Canon SD10. I've completed my own offer on Both OC and FP's camera sites, so I thought I might try to complete those sites to get a DSLR, if one was available.
[ic112ff6b3d]edit[/ic112ff6b3d] Damn GadgetCity has a Canon Digital XT Rebel for 6 offers. Might need to get started on that one.
