So... I somehow got into a NEGATIVE balance on my $75 pre paid gift card. Now they want me to pay the balance that is negative. W T F

its only $7.77, and I did use the card to do offers for other freebie sites.. so hmm I guess I better pay to get credit/greens.

But I thought pre paid visa gift cards won't let anyone charge past the amount you have on the card.

u arent supposed to be able to but if u sign up for a service which charges by the month and u have enough to start the service it will continue it, and the service wants there money so they charge you again. if they didnt do this peolpe woul just get prepaid cards and charge tons of stuff and never pay.

Well, my other gift card rejects charges by those companies that charge per month. Specifically WhiteNite... that scam.

That's weird. From their site, it says

"To guarantee your transaction will be approved at the point-of-sale, be sure you have available funds to cover your purchase. [b2a46db2194]Your prepaid card will be declined if its balance is less than the purchase amount [/b2a46db2194]--no credit is extended on your card."

[quote28bd2ff872]By using your iCARD Visa gift card you agreed to the terms and conditions of use of the card. The terms and conditions state that you are responsible for knowing the balance of your card. They also state that it is possible for you to go over the balance of your card and you will be fully liable for such instances. When you made your online purchases, the goods purchased were non refundable, therefore, the merchant force posted the charge to your card. You are responsible for payment of the negative balance of the card. Clearly the card is not a regular credit card, as it was closed as soon as it was determined that you went over your balance.

thats what they emailed me saying after I complained about being charged past the limit...

I don't get these people. what the hell is the point of these prepaid cards if they let you go over the limit? fuckers.

yea, and instead of just closing my account like they said they did, they wrote "STOLEN / LOST " in the status. I hope the companies I did offers for don't see this, and think I'm trying to commit fraud or something. That would defintley not get me greens, arg.

Its not iCardsystem's fault... you have to understand how credit card processing works.

whenever you make a purchase, your card gets validated. GENERALLY speaking, the way your card is validated is the merchant puts a 'hold' on the amount of your purchase. if you don't have that much left on your card, it gets declined and everything works great. Sometime later (as soon as a couple minutes or as long as four days), a 'finalized' charge is put through on the card which changes it from a temporary to a permanent charge on your cc account. the permanent charge is not necessarily the same as the initial hold amount - i.e. at a restaurant, they run your card for the cost of the meal (and sometimes add 15%), and then later when the transaction is finalized they enter the actual total, depending on what you tipped.

some processors do not validate your card for the full amount of the purchase, but instead choose a small amount (usually $1). what happened to timmy here is the company that processed the cc validation charge ($1) and later sent the finalized amount ($8.77 or whatever it is that caused the balance to work out). since the cc passed validation for the $1 charge, they have to allow the full $8.77 charge when it gets finalized, which is how you went negative.

now pay up and consider it a good lesson in why you shouldn't use prepaid cards to do offers.

already paid, and i will always use gift cards to do offers. Not worth it to risk getting scamed.

most sites consider that fraud, since it shows that no matter how good the service, you'll never stay on. You're playing with fire....

Thats not true. If sites considered it fraud, why would they even accept pre paid gift cards. Just because I use the gift card doesn't mean I don't want the service. A lot of sites allow you to change your payment method / cc if you want. I have done this with blockbuster and it works fine. Then again, it also rejected charges from WhiteNite, when I got charged within the free trial period.
