Can anyone recommend some good CPU cooling software?

Mines is running at 79.2 F just being online so I'd like to able to get it cooled down quite a bit.

hehehhehe

I thought XP already does this automatically?

80F is really good.

Well I did a quick search and some people were saying that AMD's should be running about 57 when idle. shrug

Also, I'm in the attic of my house which has no central air and the AC is shit, so in the summer, the room goes up to about 90F and I have to take off all my clothes just to be semi-comfortable.

It's an attic turned into a bedroom.

Yeah sorry it was 57C, and the temp on my PC case says 77.4 F at the moment. I'm just bothered mainly about when summer comes along. (

If it's for the CPU, you can go for a zalman fan. They're quiet and cool well.

Which one of those is the better one? The more expensive one?

Yeah, all copper conducts better. I have the AlCu one.

dude. buy a fan and plug it in. one of the fans that have the place where you can put water in it and whatever.

the alcu and the pure copper get practically the same results. my overclocked amd 3200+ venice gets idle temps of 22-23 celsius with a 7000 alcu led so defintately worth the price

Are these easy to install and maintain? Anything I need to know about them?

Anyone recommend a good case or case manufacturer?

well the instructions are pretty clear and they have a guided flash walkthrough video on their main website. if your case is well ventilated but lacks proper filters, the fins tend to gather some dust after a couple of months so just keep a can of compressed air handy for a cleaning job every couple of weeks. thermaltake and antec make some pretty nice cases. drop a price range and i'm sure we could help you fdn soemthing suitable

Hmm.....Well as for a price range, I'm ot sure how much a good case would be, but I'd be willing to pay maybe $100 - $150? shrug

Like I said though, not knowing how much a good case costs doesn't help.

what would you say is a bottom line price - ie a price where he gets everything he needs, without overspending for stuff he doesn't need?

I'd say he could get a good case (granted no PSU, antec) for around $80-$100.

The Zalman HSF is around $30-$40, depending on which one he wants. The AlCu is more then enough, the CU one is nice but not exactly needed. Though CU is a better conductor, hence it should yield a 1-2C lower temp iover the AlCu version.

thermaltake tsunami, and antec p180 are the two cases i would get if i had around a 100 bucks

Hmm, that still seems really expensive. I built 5 PCs (granted it was 2 years ago) when it was still cheaper to build than buy, and used $35 cases with PSs included. They run AMD 2700s, XP Pro, 128MB video cards and do AutoCad rendering all day long, and are left on 24/7 and all of them are still working great. What does he get with the extra $100 ($60 extra for the case and $40 for the heat sink)?

The extra cash goes to make the PC quiet and cooler. In an office the noise may not be too bothersome but at home these loud fans can be annoying. Once I spent about $130 on various parts (psu, cpu hsf, gpu hsf, fans) to quiet down the pc and make it cooler, and it was well worth it. I am going to get another zalman gpu heatsink since my 6600gt runs too hot and has a loud fan.

I personally wouldn't spend $100 for a case though. I keep whatever I get.

coolermaster centurion is a great case for the price. i got a couple when building custom comps for about 600-700 for my friends. the front bezyl is kinda tedious to take off but overal it's an easy build
