I am looking to start giftfiesta soon and would like to get some surround sound speakers. I already have a nice 6.1 receiver however my only problem is that I need a powered subwoofer because my receiver only has an outport for such.
I was looking at this system and was hoping someone could tell me whether or not the included subwoofer is powered...

I really hope someone can help!!
Thanks

Yes, it's powered but what kind of outputs do you have that might work with this? If you already have a nice receiver, the z-5300 would just make your receiver redundant in that these speaker sets amplify signals themselves. I don't think these have any digital inputs anyway.

Well, actually, I wouldnt be using the speakers, just the subwoofer for my current setup. I would probably use the rest of the system in another room, just wthout LFE.

Yeah, I don't think you can use it like that. With these surround systems, you plug in 3 3.5mm jacks from the center speaker to your 5.1 PC sound card. There's another set of wires that goes from the center to the sub, which has all the outputs for the surrounds.
It's hard to explain so why not just download the manual from their website? They should have diagrams. Basically, I think the sub is directly connected to the center speaker (no connectors - but check) so it's hard to just use the sub as a standalone. If you can rig it maybe it'll work but I'd be wary of doing so, considering there are probably specs for resistance values and such for your subwoofer output.
