my 40gb monochrome has died 1 year and 2 months after purchase. My warranty is over, i never signed up for applecare, and i do not want to wipe all my songs. What are my options?

When i turn on my ipod, i get the apple logo, about 5 seconds later, i get the sad face telling me to go to their website support.

am i officially screwed? i haven't done anything wrong with this little bad boy (which i paid full price for, unfortunately)

is wiping my songs the only way? anyway of recovery? or retrieving songs before it wipe it?

Just had this happen on my nano, it's scary. Do you not have those songs anywhere but your ipod?

ipod updater, reset it.

reset the ipod
(center +menu -hold them
then put it in disk mode
center+play-hold them
then plug it into your computer and see if it is recognized and if you can use ipod->folder or something to back it up, you will have to reformat it for sure

I think he meant hook it up to the USB, then open My Computer to see if it recognizes the ipod as a USB drive also

updatei put my ipod in disk mode, i tried plugging it into my computer. whats so scary is that it keeps making this noise where it sounds like my ipods turning off, then it turns back on. so its making this high then low high then low. sounds like the ipods trying to turn off but the computers keeping it on or something...
