Its loud, if you buy another one, do you think it'll be loud?

You should check and see if it's the case fan or the power supply fan. Case fans are probably 5 bucks or less, but if it's the power supply, that could get expensive since you have to buy a whole new unit.
Bottom line, if it's the first one spare your friend, otherwise..... lol
Earplugs are always another option...

Is it a laptop or a desktop? I had tons of problems with the fans on my old HP laptops.

Replace the fan with a brick. Bricks are quiet as shit these days.

It's a desktop.... he had a blanket over it and noticed a funky smell, haha probably not a good idea to cover your fan hole with a blanket.... anyway still need some advice on how to quite this ma'fucka down

Take the fan out of your computer and put it in his. Yours won't need it.

http//www.monarchcomputer.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=M&Product_Code=130139&AFFIL=FRG&NR=1 <<< that's what i would use since it's pretty damn quiet but still moves a heckuva lot of air.
if you need the 80mm one instead of this 120mm fan. lookie here http//www.monarchcomputer.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=M&Product_Code=130138

Actually, these [i62ff28b9bf]can[/i62ff28b9bf] be replaced sometimes. It's just more difficult to do it.

Tell your friend to google "quiet pcs". It's not just the fan making all that noise. PSU, Hard drives, video card fan, CPU fan, etc. all make noise.
Shove that KMA+ up your friend's ass.

when i gave my old pc to my parents i replaced both the case fan and the video card fan because they were loud (extremely annoying high-pitch whining). the case fan was ~$5 and the video card fan was a little over $10 if i remember correctly. like someone said earlier, open the thing up and figure out which fan is causing the problem. you can librieflyli unplug the fan from the mobo to help figure this out if you need to. it really isn't a hard or expensive thing to fix and you'll be alot happier if you do it.
