I have an LGA775 pentium 4 with a stock clock speed of 3.0ghz and i couldnt be happier with it. I overclocked it to 3.6ghz on STOCK COOLING a little while ago and it hasnt given me any trouble at all..... shock
stick with intel unless your planning to get a super high end top of the line amd cpu..

i have a amd64 3500+ and i overclocked it big time and it is still running stable. i am opting for water cooling in the next few weeks though so i can push it a bit further.

it depends what you are doing. if you are looking for a basic gaming system, AMD is the way to go, because you get more bang for the buck, and on gaming tests, AMD does better than intel, according to tom's hardware. however, if you are doing editing, intel is the way to go.
