I recently received an iBook from IRC and two Mac Minis from referral sites. My plan was to give all of them in to the Apple store and exchange it for something nice (worth $2200 of credit).
However, I called the store and they checked the serial numbers for me; they said that none of the items were purchased at an Apple store or Apple.com, so there was nothing they could do.
The question is What do I do now? I could go the eBay route and sell it all, but it's kind of disappointing to know I'll be getting a lower value for the items than I would have gotten at the Apple store. My brothers have suggested I keep the iBook and sell the Mac Minis (does anyone actually keep these little things?).
Anyways, anybody have any suggestions?

[quote31dd494085="doylnea"]The easiest way to exchange an Apple product is to go to an Apple Store with the unopened item. Tell them you received the item as a gift and would like to return the item (2GB Nano) and exchange it for a 4GB Nano. You'll pay the difference in cost between the two items. You can discount the difference in price by using the Student discount (if you qualify).
Good luck.[/quote31dd494085]
I don't know if this will apply to me really; I don't want to upgrade up and pay the difference.
My plan was to give all of my items in and simply hold on to the store credit until Apple comes out with some new laptops.
Is my plan impossible to achieve? Seeing as how the guy on the phone checked all my serial numbers, I don't think I stand much of a chance...

I get the feeling that they don't check the S/N when it comes to ipods but they do when it is higher ticket items. While a lot of people say to take it to an Apple store for an upgrade or credit, it's really hit or miss, and not a given. In your case, you can try to just take the ibook and see what they say. If that works, take the mac the next time, and repeat.

It's amazing when people get banned after two posts. Who else was this fool?

Maybe he's the guy who took the iBook from someone else's IRC account?

It was a case of mistaken identity.

eBay? If your not into that, www.i-soldit.com is all the eBay with none of the work. And yes, I am plugging the company I work for.
Doesn't Costco accept anything for store credit even without a receipt. That's what I would do.
egg can u pm me more about that company i got some questions
