Yea. So, here's my question.
Is there anything that I can buy that I can sit in my house that can connect to my neighbor's router?
So freaking like I want to know if there is a unit similar to a wireless router; however, instead of needing wired connections, can I get something that will pretty much extend his network through my house?

Yea. Linksys makes one. It basically take the signal and resends its out, stronger. Hopefully, you're close enough for this to work, and that he doesn't have a password on his router, or that he's letting you get on.

Thats the device. I'm sure there are better places to get it from. That's just the first that popped up.

I used to be able to do this @ my mom's house w/ the neigbor's fast cable connection, then one day they decided to WEP-protect it cry @ my dad's there's tons of wireless networks when I scan, but the ones w/o protection aren't in range...

Get a good directional external antenna from a company like Hawking for your client card.
It'll make a HELL of a difference. If somehow it doesn't cut it, then a repeater is what you'd need, and Hawking has those too.

no. when i go to bed it has to be turned off, so if i want to get up at 3 in the morning and don't want to trudge all the way downstairs to my modem, i want to just be able to use my neighbor's connection.

...next time one of them says that to you, punch them in the gut. Seriously, that's ridiculous! Tell them you'll write them a check for $0.03 every month to cover the added cost of the modem being on 24x7.
