I know at least one person here uses the iBook G4 they got from IRC or elsewhere. I'm selling mine and a potential buyer just asked me if the keys click lol He needs to use it silently (don't even wanna know why) so he needs to know whether the keyboard makes noise or not whilst typing. TIA!

well i just tested mine. It doesn't make any noise if you type slow, but normal speed typing does have audible clicking.

Two answers about TIA, but just one for the topic? P
Thanks xigxag, but didn't you bid on my auction? What do you need 2 for? haha
ilan, don't you use an iBook?
Guess I'll just forward him xigxag's response.
I'm on my iBook right now, but you should hint to him that he's not going to find a 1000$ laptop that doesn't click when you type unless it's a spy laptop that blows up after you give it to another spy. I wonder why he needs a silent keyboard..he's probably a kid looking to jerk at night without his parents hearing him typing lol.

Well is it clicking in the sense of a normal, old school IBM desktop keyboard? In my experience, laptop keyboards are quite a bit quieter than desktops.

Well, my best guess is that he will be in a college lecture and wouldn't want to attract attention to his typing while he types long e-mails/forum posts?

[quotecdec66981e="kevxross"]ilan, don't you use an iBook?[/quotecdec66981e]
I use a powerbook. It was pretty quiet until I spilled a whole cupfull of water on it (which leaked all the way to my battery, but somehow the computer is perfectly ok after a few kernal panics); keyboards are keyboards, they'll make noise but they're still moderately quiet.
It also depends on how you type. The faster you type the louder you strike the keys in your zealous commenting on today's happenings.

heh, yeah i think i bid $400 on your auction, trying to help you get the bid up I guess )
On a sad note, after typing that earlier post at home I drove to class. I got out of my car and sat my iBook and books on the car hastily while getting the rest of my stuff (i was running late) The books slipped off and my precious freebie took a nasty spill! Still seems to work ok, but got some battle scars on all 4 corners from the concrete. The plastic popped out from around the connectors, looks like I can put it back in though. cry I feel like an idiot

Sorry it must be my feet.
I don't think ibook is worth all these hypes by people. I want the new duo core mac !!

i think the hype was generated not by what a great machine it is, but that we got it for 6 easy installments of offers and delivered in less than a month.

its weird because I was listening to an old "Security Now' podcast today and they were talking about how there is a way to determine keystrokes with 96% accuracy by recording the sound of someone typing. Was pretty interesting how you make more impact on certain keys so it can be analyzed like that. Not really a big security threat, as if you could get close enough to plant a mic, why not just put in a keylogger.

I have an mp3 file that plays keyboard clicks while I sleep, and the key sounds spell out "S-T-O-P L-I-S-T-E-N-I-N-G T-O M-E."
Mostly I do it to amuse the FBI; the NSA has little sense of humor.
