I'm looking to host 2-3 sites, mostly static content, PHP would mostly be for a bulletin board (processing intensive?), and some light flash here and there. Nice e-mail options are a plus. I'm not sure how much traffic I'll be able to get, but I'd [ife059f26a2]like[/ife059f26a2] the sites to be popular, of course.

DreamHost was looking good, but then I read some bad reviews recently. Now I'm also looking at Bluehost and Lunarpages as well as a few others.

Opinions?

Thanks!

P.S. - don't try to get me to do a hosting offer for you.

Thanks shamash. I read that DreamHost really clamps down on processor usage. Do you run much PHP and, if so, have you noticed this?

I use PowWeb and Starlogic. Both are very good in my opinion. D

I use Powweb as well. Never had a problem with reliability or anything, plus they have a good customer base, and a very active forum if you had a problem. Make sure you do a trade when you sign up though.

I kinda brought this topic back because I am about to buy hosting with Eleven2[=http//www.eleven2.com/pages/]Eleven2. I was going to get the 5gb storage/160 gb of bandwidth for 11.95 a month. Thats a bit pricey right? I found this one at GoDaddy[=http//www.godaddy.com/]GoDaddy for 5gb spave and 250 gb of bandwidth for 3.95!!! Thats a lot cheaper. But Im wondering who uses Godaddy for hosting, not necessarily domain purchases.
I cant find a list of their features anywhere. They must not offer too much if they are offering their hosting for that cheap right? Do they offer POP3? Are their servers slow? Do they ever have downtime? Who would you prefer? Any help would be greatly appreacited. ;)

you're going to get what you pay for, no matter what, which is oversold crap.

if your only concern is cost http//www.nearlyfreespeech.net
if you are a hardcore developer or want to resell http//www.apisnetworks.com
somewhere in the middle? i don't know.

Thanks, price is not really a concern. My concern is stability and features. I will be running a high traffic web design site here. My other sites are hosted on Media.Temple. Im not too satisfied with them so I was looking for something else.

All I can say is they have been very reliable for me i get quite a bit of traffic per day and have never had any problems. Down is very minimal they have quite a few features to boot.

dreamhost sucks. their interface is so crappy and yea.

I suggest GoDaddy, I use their free hosting and have found it to be very reliable.

Hes not looking for freehosting full of google ads. And for $40 bucks a year with a free domain dreamhost is pretty kickass.

i know. but if he paid the $3.95 a month there would be no ads. Their free-hosting and their paid hosting (lowest price) are equivilent except that the paid hosting gets rid of ads.

Yes but for shere power and dependablity you can't really beat dreamhost. Starting with 1000 GB of bandwidth it grows 8GBs a week 21720.000 MB of disk space and a domain (lots more to) all for $40 a year i have yet to see a better deal.

thanks everyone too bad my mind still isnt made up ( I think Ill go with eleven 2. Im just a bit scared I will go over bandwidth. Another issue I have is that you have to either buy hosting in bulk ot they charge some lowsy "setup" fee. It takes 5 minutes to set up a domain.

e2? no they are small, you should go with cubichosting.net or if you want a VERY reliable host, go with someone that DOESNT have cpanel, it just may be annoying though.

I've been using http//micfo.com for close to 2 years now. They had some major issues about 8 months ago, but they've just moved into a new datacenter and I couldn't be happier with their service as of late.

I took the risk and prepaid for 2 years, getting the 3rd year free. Due to special upgrades for current customers, giveaways and that type of thing, I've had my account increased from 1gb of space and 40gb bandwidth to 8gb of space and 240gb bandwidth.

i would NEVER host anything remotely important on dreamhost. fipg is hosted on a private server.
