i got limewire...and i've had it for a while...but the stupid program acts up on my like all the time.
when ever i'm not downloading anything and it's just sitting there for more than 2 min...it starts taking up like 99% of my cpu ussage and i can't do anything. and even when i am downloading stuff...i can only go for so long (about 15 min.) before it somehow disables my internet and i nothing short of restarting my computer will fix it. and that's on a good day when it dosn't lock up my computer!
anyone else have these problems?
or, does anyone else know of any FREE alternatives to downloading stuff. mostly i download music, but i've also gotten my fair share of videos too. i've also gotten a couple comp games...but 1)the selection is limited, 2) it takes forever, 3)they don't always work, and 4) half of the files are viruses anyways.
now i'm careful w/ what i download, but does anyone have any input/solutions? thanks!

i usually do that...or else CtrlAltDelete and then set priority to low...that way i can still download and halfway run a couple of other programs. but i'm getting sick of that and i'm looking for something else

Only file-sharing service that works at USC is Ares and that's what we use. Not incredible, and it's tough to get songs sometimes, but it works on campus.

I had this too it's a virus
limewire opens by itself, library has all these junk files. All are usually 800kb file size. Just get a good antivirus like avast or avg, both free on download.com, and do a scan. If that doesn't work download hijack this and post the results here. I'll tell you what strings to fix. I hate this virus cause I had it before.
as a side note. This virus was first unleashed by the music companies because they were fed up with filesharing and wanted to give us hell. There are many articles of this online.

Your problem is you have Uploading on. Turn it off and it won't eat your internet. Also, when you hit the [X] it doesn't close it, it goes into your taskbar, and you have to right click on the icon and hit "Quit Limewire"

I never had that problem, the only problem that I am having is that the letters disappear, don't know why, I tried uninstalling and all that but is always the same

only problem i ever had with limewire was that it couldnt' connect for some reason and that was fixed by a clean install of the newest version. that disappearing letter stuff looks pretty weird.. a virus that takes an eraser to your programs? ;)

Well, Limewire is run off of Java, so maybe you need to update your version of Java Desktop Environment? shrug

it is a cloned version. it's the same team. they didn't agree with something limewire put into their source code so they took the source code and started their own.. they're still with limewire tho..
[quote81e528b2ee="Frostwire Forums"]
[b81e528b2ee]The following is basic information about the current FrostWire project[/b81e528b2ee]
FrostWire is a fork/spin-off of the LimeWire client. The purpose of this fork is because of the company, LimeWire LLC, and its standing position that may soon filter content on the Gnutella network from within the LimeWire client.
[quote81e528b2ee="From www.FrostWire.com"]
[i81e528b2ee]Excerpt taken from www.FrostWire.com main page[/i81e528b2ee]
The FrostWire Team does its best to maintain good relationship with the LimeWire project. The FrostWire Team, all of whom are still members of the LimeWire open-source community, disagrees with LimeWire's decision to consider filtering content on the Gnutella network (LimeWire has not implemented this type of DRM technology into their client as of yet). However, we will continue supporting the LimeWire client development and do not wish to make fundamental or drastic changes to the LimeWire core itself. FrostWire will not break with LimeWire's design philosophy.
FrostWire, unlike LimeWire, will never offer a PRO version. The FrostWire project will always remain strictly non-profit without any bundled software, including advertisements, spyware, malware or any code outside the scope of the general network that can transmit private information. FrostWire will always remain Free as in both price and freedom.[/color81e528b2ee]
