Well, my computer was infected so I had to format. Not much of a loss, but I rather stay protected. The main three things I am looking for are quality, price, and how much softwares it has (Ex. Spy-Ware Remover, etc).

Can't go wrong with Kaspersky. I'd never use Norton. Ever.

i use norton's internet security, ad-aware, spybot, and pcdoctor but i ahve to say that ad-aware finds the most stuff while norton's doesn't seem to do much at all.

fort norton you need to have a good computer with a lot of ram than it will run good but i use kaspersky cant go wrong with it

i got kaspersky and man, bad idea if u want computer to move. i have a P4 3.2ghz with 2 gigs of ram, and i couldnt even see letters get typed faster than once a second. as soon as i disabled its service from starting (not just removing it from startup...the service was the problem), it was fine.

i have norton corporate on here now. its very nice, opposed to norton retail which is utter crap. it dusnt eat all my resources, and has just the basic anti virus stuff (i coulda installed internet security too but had no interest in it so i cant say wat that ones like in corporate).

definitely recommend kaspersky for scanning though. just not for running on start up, so that means no auto protect -\

Same. [ud6801810d3]http//free.grisoft.com[]http//free.grisoft.com[/ud6801810d3] I hate Norton w/ a passion. They pre-install that shit on new computers. My dad's new HP has about 10 Norton processes running and it nags you to pay for an upgrade every time you start-up. And ad-aware free of course for spyware and the like.

Avast Anti-virus is a must-have.

I like it the best because it lets you do a boot-time scan, so that it can scan while NOTHING is running.

I'm not sure if AVG lets you do that, I never really used it.

Well, since there are like 2 viruses for OS X, and unles you are a dumbass it's near impossible to get, I don't know how that logic is flawed.

The only reason Macs DON'T have viruses, is because not as many people use macs as windows.

Clear and simple. The code writers are PC users, and want their codes to get out to the masses.

I work at best buy and install/use norton, macafee, and pccillin about 20 times a day. Pccillin is THE BEST as far as antivirus goes. It uses far less memory than the other two alternatives and catches more viruses than either. Do not get the pccillin internet security though. Just get the 39$ pccillin antivirus which works great alongside webroot spysweeper. Put both on your computer and it will be completely protected.

29-01-2006 00:02:19

ok, do NOT install norton under any circumstances I don't care how much RAM you have.

I use AVG, and hear good things about avast.

I wouldn't think of installing any anti-virus on a mac at this time, just a waste. Same thing goes with PC users as well, don't be stupid and you won't get viruses.

same. those that are worried about viruses are the only ones that get them. i dont even know how people go about getting adware and viruses. they dont just show up on the computer. 95% of computer problems are from what is in between the keyboard and the chair. if people werent so fucking stupid they wouldnt have to buy that stuff.

It will still eat up resources. You don't have that good a setup. But no matter how much you got why use a program that isn't as good and uses up resources...

Symantec makes Norton antivirus

http//www.symantec.com/product/index.html

I used to work for them. Not a horrible company to work for but the antivirus package they issue is crap becuase of the need to renew a subscription. I think Symantec/Norton anti-virus works good overall. They have large scaled teams of people who track newly found viruses and the methods to erase them.

Symantec Antivirus is much nicer on your system...

i have had a wonderful experience with mcafee, although it is around $100 a year. it has kept my computer completely problem free. i found that, on three separate computers (my old, old computer, my old-ish one that my boyfiend now has [now used with mcafee], and my boyfriends dads computer), norton was as effective as MS paint when it came to keeping the computer clean. i have never had a good experience with it, but thats not to say that nobody else has.

i also use adaware and spybot, as well, but they usually dont find many problems outside of tracking cookies.

I use AVG-Free. I used to pay $50 to have Norton for 3 years, but Norton was worthless. It couldn't delete any of the viruses it found. So far, AVG is good. I'm careful to never download anything I shouldn't since spyware broke my last computer.

zone alarm is the absolute best....i keep it always running in the backround and never had one problem with it slowing my computer down.....never had one virus either...it gives you so much control over your computer and is VERY easy to use....

I want to bump this thread to see what people are using now-a-days lately...I'm using F-Secure for anti virus and firewall. It's great software that uses very little system resources..thats why i switched from Norton. And it picks up everything!

AVG fan here -- best AV I've ever used, and I've used just about all of them. I've used the Free version on countless PC's and it has a very low footprint -- you don't even know it's there.

As far as personal firewalls go, I really dislike Zone Alarm. It liisli a resource hog and causes issues with lots of different software. I wouldn't run a PF for years because of trouble I had with all of them, and just relied on my Linux firewall/gateway. But then I gave Kerio Personal Firewall a try. It worked so well I paid for the Pro version! Also very low footprint/resource requirements. Sunbelt Software bought it out from Kerio, and you can get it free -- after the 30 day trial it reverts to the more limited free version, which is still plenty functional. Try it and I think you'll like it over ZA.

My brother uses that.

I use Mcafee, I think its the whole suite.

I also use windows defender...Which is garbage, It was good when it was microsoft anti-spyware...Now it 5ux0r's.

And then I use ad-aware SE as well.
