I have tried BETA 2 (Build 5270).. theres a lot of changes in the GUI and some in functionality.. they still need to work out the bugs.

Yeah I'll wait until there are later beta releases. It was way buggy when I tried it a while ago...

I probably wont even attempt to use it until about 4 or 5 months after its official release...

All the keys expire the same time.

Vista is very stable if you can get the right drivers...

i've been using rc1 and it whups ass. i'd say my xp crashes way more than vista. only problem i see are that some programs/drivers like logitech setpoint don't work. there should be a lot more vista drivers available soon though. I'd say try it out if you haven't used vista before. pretty impressive stuff

16-09-2006 22:37:25

I am currently running RC1 without any major problems. A complaint I have is that RAW files (from my dSLR) still currently dont show a preview... which is supposed to be one of the features in windows explorer. not that big of a deal, picasa is good for previewing pictures.

Also, my old hp 7350 printer wont install properly...

manOFice

17-09-2006 18:36:43

I got it installed good and only have one problem...but it's a major one.

Everything works fine except my 300gig sata drive...i can't get working drivers for my "Promise FastTrak 376 Controller". Very disapointing.

Same issue, I assume you have an asus board.. If I find a working driver I will let u know, would appreciate if you did the same..

Other then that vista is great.

I called promise and they said they don't even have a driver for the Promise PDC20376...lol...they said to contact my oem of the motherboard...which is nvidia i assume....So i'm gonna mess around with some nvidia drivers

I got it working.. used the cd that came with the board, first time around it installed nt/2000 drivers.. I manually installed the xp drivers and works fine..

This was after I installed vista to ide drive, if you are trying to install vista to the sata, may have other issues, but should work.

pm me if you need help or need the drivers.

Just get partition magic, thats what i did

So I'm installing Vista on one of my PCs as I type, and so far it's taking really freaking long. Also, I don't think it's recognizing one of my audio drivers, so no sound.

To me this seems like a step backwards from XP. Also, they gave me the Home Basic package which is like a rip off. Of all the software upgrades, the one I would need is Premium, but of course I don't get that with the free express upgrade!

Oh well.

I got a second copy in the mail last week, and haven't installed either. I'm gonna wait a bit.

I killed the vista partition and reimaged my pc with xp pro again. My computer isn't powerful enough to run vista how I want it.

tinkerjenn

I'll stay with XP for a year or so..then they'll have the craptacular bugs out of the way and the rest of the software industry will catch up

ajasax

01-05-2007 07:39:48

Yup. Same here. Tried making the switch to Vista entirely, but got frustrated because a few of my hardware components don't have full drivers. Creative isn't coming out with drivers for my webcam until the 3rd quarter of 07 ?

manOFice

Everything worked for me eventually, drives and all. But it ran slow with 1 gig of ram, I recommend 4 gigs to run great.

Yeah, if I'm going to install Vista, it won't support my sound card drivers either, and because the card is discontinued, they won't make the drivers for Vista. (

I don't think it sucks, I think it rocks, just requires a lot of resources.

I got Vista on my new computer just a month ago and I must say I've had almost as many lock ups in a month with Vista as I did in a Year with XP.

And my Creative X-Fi card does not love Vista either.

Wolfeman

4GB is overkill. 2GB is plenty...

EatChex89

No iTunes problems? I got all of the available updates and fixes and it's still messed up. (

Veek

No iTunes problems at all. In fact, XP would give me iTunes problems but not Vista. At least not yet.

I hate Vista. I got the Business Edition for free from school and switched back to XP Pro after two weeks. They tried to make it too retard proof and there is too much security crap.
