[quote4940ed5b54="ESPN"]That came on the same night the NBA had its highest-scoring game in 11 years when Seattle beat Phoenix 152-149 in two overtimes. The last 300-point game in the league came when Dallas beat Houston 156-147 in two overtimes on April 11, 1995, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.[/quote4940ed5b54]

yeah your team has to at least make the playoffs for you to qualify for MVP.
I like Dirk Nowitki a lot better right now, look at the mavs they are first place in the west.
After the big three broke up and it's just Dirk now, the Mavs are as strong a team as they have ever been. They beat the pistons and the Spurs also this season so Dallas is going to be a serious contender come May.

well, to me, the mvp award is not something that should go to the best player in the league like a lot of people tend to believe....but rather to the player most valuable to his team.....that being....kobe definitely means a lot more to his team than any other player IMO.....dirk is good though but if the mavs did not have him they could still win....i doubt the lakers would be any better than the hawks without kobe in the line-up.......
lieditli
oh yea....and the lakers will more than likely be in the playoffs.....kobe will take them that far....its up to phil to lead them anywhere futher.....

Kobe is in the MVP voting but Steve Nash is the MVP. There team is awesome without their best player and the guy is just insane...
justinag06
24-01-2006 00:27:15
yeah nash is still amazing
however I dont think kobe scoring 81 points should encourage any kind of debate about him being MVP yet.
no one takes near as many shots as he does per game, lebron and dirk have better FG % and Dirks 3 pt % bests kobes by almost 10%. Give the guy credit where it's due, but just cause he refuses to play with a team don't hold that against the leagues true most valuable players

Holy Crap! 81 points! Impressive.
If Kobe was handling the ball that much in the game and he only has 2 assists, I guess Kobe has completely lost faith in his teammates.

Either are you. Whats the point?
He hogs the ball and no team can be sucessful if 1 player tries to be everything. They will probably make the playoffs but aren't going to do anything. Last night was the best individual performance of all time, in a lot of people's opinion but it doesn't change the fact Kobe can't carry a team...

...right and it doesnt make him the MVP either. I don't care what anyone says on ESPN. He will have to do a lot of things to be the MVP. One more game where he scores 70 points would do it. He could have easily had this kind of a game against the mavs when he left before the 4th.
Lebron does so many things better than Kobe at a much younger age, and with less of a team.

Less of a team? Have heard of Chris Mihm or Smush Parker before they came to the Lakers? Kwame Brown? Granted Kwame was the number one pick back in 2001, but he hasnt lived up to that yet.
Compare that starting line up with the Cavs.
Larry Hughes, Eric Snow, Zydrunas Ilgauskas, and Drew Gooden
You want to tell me that the Cavs have less of a team? Take away Kobe and what do you have with the Lakers? Odom? Who is inconsistant and at best averages 15 points and a couple rebounds?
Take away Lebron and you still have Larry Hughes and Eric Snow.
Im not saying Kobe is MVP or whatever. But I think he is much better than Lebron right now. Lebron is on a pace to better Kobe. But, hes not better at this stage.
If you watched the last game between the Cavs and the Lakers, you would know. Lebron cracked under pressure and couldnt make the last (what would have been) the game winning shot. On the other hand, Kobe made the Lakers last 3 or so shots.

yup your exactly right with the cavs being much better....thats what im trying to get across...the lakers are one of the worst teams in league without kobe bryant....i thought lamar would give them a boost but he has not lived up to that very much....hes good but lets face it....kobe is their only REAL threat.....but you cant say that lebron is not better than kobe overall....kobes a better scorer but lebron is on another level in his leadership abilities.......but without him the cavs can still win with eric snow, zydrunas ilgauskas, and larry huges.....its just not comparable how much of a better team the cavs are without their star player....
and wolfeman.....he is definitely a ballhog....but he has every right to be....he tried the whole pass and then shoot deal....never worked...they lost almost every one of those games....just look back at when they faced the rockets.....he took [b127386e88a]13[/b127386e88a] shots and they lost in one of the lowest scoring games in the season....not to mention we didnt even have our top center....Yao Ming sat the entire game.....then take a look a couple of games around that one....his team can simply not put up the numbers they need to when they need to.....even if he gives them the chances....so in every aspect of the word respect....his teamates and yall need to respect that he is now doing what any other superstar would do and put the entire offense on his back because thats exactly what they need him to do.....
[quote127386e88a="justinag06"]...right and it doesnt make him the MVP either. I don't care what anyone says on ESPN. He will have to do a lot of things to be the MVP. and yea i do believe that he will put on another show for us that will reach the 70s......given that he is now going to put most of the offense on his back......and thats the whole reason i think he will be the mvp is because im fairly sure he will be back doing this impressive scoring again......not because he had one 81 point game.....

mvp kobe if he keeps consistent, they will be around an 8th seed in the playoffs, dont know if they have the talent to get far, u cant say kobe cant carry a team, until his career is over, but the cavs have a way better team than the lakers, dont forget damon jones too, also lebron isnt clutch, he doesnt have the killer instinct kobe does to win a game. nash is awesome, i like him too, but could he do his stats w/o amare and shaun marion probably not, therefore clear mvp would be kobe right now.

If Kobe was so great he'd make players around him better. Pippen was what he was because of Jordan and a lot of the Bulls like Horace Grant, Steve Kerr, etc. would never have been good without Jordan. LeBron has some better players but those guys wouldn't be as good without him. Snow was never that great on the 76ers, Ilgauskas is decent but nothing special, Gooden is a good young player but I think he gets a lot of open shots b/c LeBron gets so much attention. Kobe could make his other players better but he just jacks up shots...

ill give you that.....kobe isnt making anybody better NOW, like mike did way back when and the way that lebron does, but if you gave kobe a good scorer, lets say like wally from the wolves (i think that he would fit along with kobe like peanut butter and jelly wink )....he would definitely make him better....its all really about WHO your putting around the player and the chemistry they can create with each other...thats a huge part that the coach needs to fill....finding the right players to put together in order to make a beautiful chemistry, such as the bulls of the 90's....phil jackson did a wonderful job with them......
and all i was trying to say is that the cavs are better than the lakers if you minus the superstar...and the bulls that you mentioned were damn good talents even without the best player in the world.....

i dont know about that....he tried that earlier in the season....didnt work....so he went back to just taking everything on his own and winning that way....in fact i saw an espn sportscenter where they were talking about this....jackson just told him to keep shooting and shooting while everyone around him was trying to get him to pass.....look at the results, few wins when he passes, 81 points when he shoots.....simple as that....
