So I recently got my first freebie, my 60 gig black video iPod. I installed the drivers/iTunes on my main PC imported all my songs into iTunes, let it convert what it needed to. When I plugged my Pod in, there was some kind of error in the USB port and the USB device wasn't fully recognized.

Ended up freezing my Pod (I thought it was dead lol ), and rendering my USB ports useless. All 4 onboard, 2 on a IDE card and 2 i wired into the header from the front panel, now none work even to get my mouse power. After not being able to quickly fix the USB problem in my main PC, I decided just to use my iTunes on my iBook to access my music over the network.

The iBook connected to my network easily, and I got all of my songs into iTunes. However I had to set my network folder as the default iTunes folder to prevent the iBook from trying to copy my 80 gigs of music onto itself. It took a really long time to sync everything onto the Pod, presumably since it was pulling from the network, but I let it go overnight and it all got on there.

But today I open winamp on my PC, and winamp can't find the file locations of my songs. I browse to the folder, and man did iTunes do a number on my library. I had like 1500 random songs in a "tracks" folder. iTunes made a new folder for each artist in there cry

And most of my album folders were split up into 2 or more folders for the same album, i suppose based on the way it read the tags on the mp3s.

Now i have 5000 folders inside my music folder!!!!! How the hell am I going to manually fix this?! To top it off, I think there is some kind of file system error from all of this because explorer crashes when I am browsing through the folders!!!!! ARGGGGGG

Well that was a long rant. This sucks.

What I would do is use the search feature on the topmost folder and look for .mp3url==http://=http:///url files only. Then move them all into a separate folder, and start from scratch. Except this time choose the option in iTunes "Leave my fucking folders alone".

open itunes, with your ipod docked, right click the ipod icon select options then goto the advanced tab should be two boxes checked

keep my itunes music folders fucking organized make sure its checked

copy files to itunes music folders when adding to library

make sure its checked to

that sucks about your library, hope you get all you shit back to normal

i also have "use as disk drive" checked in the ipod options dont know if that will help or not as well as manage music manually
