Does AOL AIM keep track of every conversation and IP?

Okay so I got in trouble today for harassing someone on AIM. It was a complete joke and I logged into the screen name other people use to prank people. I just went along with the joke thinking nothing of it. I guess it was serious because now the cops are all over my ass about it. They staked out my car LOL!! They claim that they have all the aim conversations from AOL AIM and that they can track by the IP to my apartment. Obviously since they staked out my car they have my IP...but do you think they can seriously track every single conversation I had back to my IP address? If you think about it, thats like millions, if not billions of lines of talking online from the people on AIM every day....do you really think this is legit or are they just trying to intimidate me. Basically, do you think AOL AIM keeps track of what screen name logs in from what IP address for every single login?

nah i mean i didn't want to mess anything up, i said it was me...blah blah blah but some of it wasn't me and they are saying all the convos are linked back to my IP address. i don't know what to do.

AOL does keep logs of convos but they don't usually give them up unless someone gets a warrant. Your cell provider keeps logs of texts too )

I remember my last incident with the cops.....

About a year ago, there was this robber going around our neighborhood robbing people dressed in black, so being the retarded kids that my friend and I were, we ran around dressed in all black with ninja masks made from t-shirts. I had this back wall and we would have big pillow sacks on our backs, and we would kind of stand on the wall, and then jump back into our yard when a car came by behind our house. This one car got all freaked out and turned around and we jumped out of our yard and we started sprinting away and it followed us.

We then hopped back in my yard and I guess they called the cops. The cops came and they parked in front of my house and behind it by the wall and at the time we were on this huge hill in my yard standing up on it and the cops shined this light on us and told us to freeze.

Now I had no idea that it was a cop who yelled that. It sounded like a neighbor, so I jumped down and ran back into my house. They never said, "Freeze, this is the police" or anything they just said freeze so I wasn't sure who it was and there was this big lantern thing shining on me so I could barely see anything. But anyway, my friend had to stand on our "mountain" thing for like 10 minutes with his hands up while the other cop went around the house from the front and got him.

I was in the house then I had to go talk to the cops. We told them that we were playing ninjas and just messing around and someone mistook us for robbers. And it was true.... P

The cops got kind of mad because they thought that they finally caught the robber or whatever but they found out it was just kids.

There's a bunch of more funny crap that happened in the story but I cut it out because it'd take too long to type. It was funny how different neighbors reacted. Multiple neighbors saw us and did different things.

I'll share two for now.

1. Well there was this one where my friend jumped from the wall to the street behind my house with his pillow sack ( lol ) and he started sprinting away. And this fat guy walking outside of his house on the other side of the street saw him and freaked out and he said something like, "Yeah you better keep running! I'll get you!" or something like that and the fat man started running at him but he barely passed his nextdoor neighbor's house before he got tired of running and hunched over while my friend was way off. And I was watching this and I think he saw my head or something and he ran back inside.

2. We were kind of standing on my wall and this blue SUV came by and they happened to be from across the street too. Anyway, we acted all suspicious with our pillow cases and we jumped over into our yard. They stopped, and they turned their car sideways RIGHT in the middle of the street and they turned on their brights against our wall. So they are in the middle of the street shining a light at the back of our house basically, that would look kind of odd to people passing by on the road. lol Anyway, we kept on popping our heads up and down acting all like we were screwed and we didn't know what to do. We were laughing and stuff and then they left. And that's when my friend jumped over and the fat man saw him. So he was gone, and I ran inside to see the people pulling up in front of my house.

Well, they drove to the front of my house, and I watched them through the window. They had these kids and they were acting all retarded and acting like they caught robbers. I was laughing still. And then, my friend, comes around when they were ringing my doorbell, and they see him. My friend couldn't go back the way he came because he thought the fat man was still there so he went in front of the house and like I said, they saw him. The people freaked out and he said that we were just playing ninjas and they got all mad and went back home. The kids were screaming and stuff and everyone was calling 911 I guess and then the cops came, and that's when we were standing on my "mountain" thing.

And like I said, a few other things happened, but I don't want to sit here typing all day.

It was a pretty funny night. We couldn't stop laughing about it. Call it immature if you want. P

yea im a dumbass so i fell for that whole shit....i knew they needed a warrant to search for IP logs....is this legit? like so the cops can't just call and be like this is officer so and so and verify the badge number and everything and have AOL or AIM help them with the investigation? like do they really need to formally give them a warrant? obviously they tracked that shit back to my apartment so....

about the harrassing, it was a complete joke. i obviously took it way out of hand and so they came after me. but seriously, if they logged every conversation and what IP every sentence came from, that is soooo much data....doesnt seem realistic to me....
