Forget that. DLP Projectors are the only way to go.

You can place a old 15" broken backlight LCD screen ontop of a projector your teacher uses for transparencies. That is what this guide is probaly going to tell you.

it has some info on the DIY projector and even a torrent download for
the projector plans so you dont have to pay 20 bucks

Don't buy it; I used to sell these on eBay. They work, if you can tweak it right so it gets bright enough. I think I still have about 50 or so of the lenses, and probably can find the instructions somewhere.

I'll send em out for $10 each to cover shipping and whatever )

edit NVM this one is the one with the LCD panels, the one I sold was the one using the shitty fresnel lenses. It wasn't the best quality but it still worked. My offer sitll stands for anyone who wants to fuck around with it. (You don't need many extra parts except some wood or cardboard)

There are several different types.
1 - Ghetto using fresnel lenses srcihter is talking about. I bought one off ebay but then I found the same lenses at a nearby 99 cent store...
2 - The lumenlab kind, which is kind of tough to make, usually consisting of a wodden box you make with an LCD and better lenses.
3 - The easiest kind, which is usually an LCD projection panel or dismounted LCD on top of a projector.

If you want to do it, I say try 3, it's the easiest. 2 will get you the best but it will also be more time consuming and expensive.
