My fish died.

My fish died yesterday when I was at a speech and debate tournament. I got it about 4 years ago at a fair (throw a ping pong ball into a floating lily pad). I am getting some new ones pretty soon because I got this new aquarium (5 gal.)
I've heard of some people's fish dying the same day they buy them. I think some stores even have a 24-hour warranty on theirs.
Have any of you ever had a fish die?

I was at a speech and debate tournament yesterday. I do Policy Debate and Congress. We had state at AZ where people from different states came to the tournament. Made it to Quarter Finals.

I had a fighting fish when i was younger and it fell ina gap between the wall and a sink, but I managed to pull it out with a clothes hanger. The fins and stuff were messed up then a week later, I was cleaning the bowl and I put the fish in a cup and he jumped out and fell down the sink. So thats how he died.

i brought home about 15 guppies about summer time. And now, there are over 50 guppies in my huge tank. Its amazing. Two of the five zebras i have also died. I think they got "raped", they had a huge stomache ready to give birth. The next day... i saw them floating upside down in the tank (

too many guppies compared to a few zebras... i guess that's how they died........... only a male and female zebra survived.
I also got a tank full of baby guppies.
I would usually sit in front of my tanks and just watch them swim and feed them, it really helps relief stress from work and other things. And its quite relaxing to watch too. wink

i had like 3 hamsters and in about a year, it turned into like 15......... that's when things started getting violent.... they started "chewing" and "biting" each other........... one of my baby hamsters escaped and was never found in my house for over 10 years...... i've yet to see any signs of where it went...... I had a hamster that lived for over 2 years and in the end, he got assassinated by a bunch of his grandchildren.... it was sad cry

If you're getting more/new fish, just don't buy them at Petco or Wal-Mart. Why the fuck Wal-Mart sell fish in the first place I have no idea.
Something else to exploit I guess.
But my wife used to work at Petco and she said they used to get deliveries of animals and fish and whatnot, and alot of them would arrive dead, but she was told to just put some of them in their displays anyway. Also if a fish died, they would leave it there and not do anything about. They hit their animals and treat them like shit.
So yeah, avoid those 2 places if you can.

I love this thread. It's hilarious.
Gerbils spread like crazy. When I was younger my brother brought two home from school and he was told that they were both male. We put them in our big fish aquarium and set it up for a gerbil paradise.
They were fruitful and they multiplied....
We had TONS of them after a while. We would collect them and put them in a big bucket and then put them on the ping pong table. And they were this massive heard of gerbils walking around and they left poop everywhere.

On the subject of fish, im thinking of getting a tank, but how much maintnence goes into it, cleaning and stuff? Id only be getting some zebras and stuff (not big fish).
Edit maybe something like this http//cgi.ebay.com/HEXAGON-5-GALLON-FISH-AQUARIUM-ACCESSORIES_W0QQitemZ7737198053QQcategoryZ20755QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Dont! The maintenance sucks, it takes forever to clean the tank, and the fish are boring. I have had 2 african clawed frogs for 7 or 8 years and I am still waiting for them to die!

20lbs rock at 10/lb, and then 1500 worth of coral... the rock is the filter, though... , so dont have to buy one of those... but I have a $300 light fixture, that uses $100 of bulbs every year...
[quotee576b8b075]You know its like torture to have a clownfish and not get it an anemone[/quotee576b8b075]
Nope, whats torture is to get an anemone and kill it over the next year... they are extremely hard to keep, especially in a really small tank such as mine. in addition, because they are hard to breed, 95% of anemones are taken directly from the ocean. Thats besides the fact that they are fine without one. My clownfish are perfectly happy hosting in their mushroom coral.

It suffocated due to a lack of oxygen (in water). A stretch, but could be considered as drowning.

yeah it is very important to have a good filtration system and make sure that you get the water tested regularly otherwise your fish will die
