Hey, I recently saw alot of people using photoshop to edit pictures and make cool graphics. I want to learn how so I need to know which version should I get and where I can find it the cheapest.

Any advice would be great for someone who is wanting to start to "Photoshop."

Photoshop CS has been out for a while. I <333 my Photoshop 7, which is what I'm working in right now.

Good luck.

Where did you get yours and how much did you pay for it?

Veek

12-01-2006 17:53:27

Um...my friend bought it and installed it in my computer.

Daggoth

just download it...and CS2 is the latest...demonoid I am sure has it..IM me if you need an invite.

I was required to buy all my software for the design classes that I took. Luckily I got the whole CS Suite for $200 from buysusa.com, which is now gone under )

It is definitely the poor man's Photoshop, but check out Ulead Photoimpact if you're on a budget of $150 or less. I used it 5-6 years ago, and it retailed for $99 or something. With Photoimpact, you can do maybe 70% of what advanced Photoshop users can do, and about 90% of what the vast majority of Photoshop users can do.

I can tell you where to get it (free) Daggoth if you don't mind Warez and know how to work it.

Daggoth

12-01-2006 18:38:26

Well, I thought talking about that wasn't allowed on these forums, but...

Ajrock gave me a torrent called Demonoid where its dling it at 4KB/sec and is 5% done, I will see you guys in a 2 hours lol.

ajrock2000

theysayjump

We can talk about Warez but I just prefer to not post direct links to it. You could probably get about 300kbps depending on your speed from the place that I know of.

The reason ppl like us don't want to pay for Photoshop is because we use it for non-commercial purposes and don't want to drop $650 just to tinker around. Ppl who DO have legit copies use it for commercial purposes and therefore it pays for itself eventually.

Music artists don't even get any of the money from CD sales. It all goes to the record label.

ajrock2000

13-01-2006 10:21:32

I think they get like .10 - .20 per cd..

[quote1bdaaf6f2d="ajrock2000"]I think they get like .10 - .20 per cd..[/quote1bdaaf6f2d]

nope. they only get money from concerts and stuff..

one of the only artists that actually got money for their CDs was metallica. and then that was like 10 or 20 cents per CD..

agroman

13-01-2006 10:27:16

you know that actually depends on the label and the contract negotiated between the artist and the label (unforunately, most large labels won't negotiate much). indie labels typically pay out more, but sell less, of course.

artists who DIY and work with distributors like Orchard and cdbaby can make a pretty good amount of money on their own. their sales are directly related to the promotion they do (online, playing live, etc).

The 5 major record companies
Universal Music Group
EMI
BMG
Warner Music Group (AOL Time Warner)
Sony Music

Do pay their artists, but BARELY anything. Yes if the artists DIY they get money, but those are usually the artists that you don't hear much of.

The record companies are only used for making the CDs and promoting the bands. Even when bands sell merchandise they don't even get much from that since it's owned primarily by the record label.

Concerts and endorsements are really the only way they make money. So all in all. It's okay to steal CDs. lol

[edit]I was misinformed, record labels DO pay their artists. my bad. but still it's like 5 cents... which is nothing.

If you really can't afford Photoshop, you might want to try a program called GIMP. It's a free program that does pretty much what Photoshop does. (obvisouly none of any good special effects) You'll be able to edit images just for sigs and photos and stuff.

I got mine in my University store. Got it pretty cheap through student pricing. Saved almost 60% of the retail price. $400 CAD, so about $350 US.

If you are lucky, your university, or so called college in US, might have a software library, you can sign out programs and install it then return it for free.

As I have stated above, you might want to try out GIMP. http//www.gimp.org/

It's not good, it's not bad. But definitely free.
