You could write about how a team of German scientists just discovered that a considerable amount of Methane gas is emitted from plants and trees, more so than was ever thought before.
This is probably going to turn the discussion of climate change on it's head and probably force a big change or rethink of the Kyoto treaty. At the moment, countries (and companies) who are in the Kyoto treaty are allowed to "cancel out" the amount of emmisions from burning fossil fuels, by funding, building and/or planting new forests or previously deforested areas.

You could write about oil drilling in Alaska and how all the pussy environmentalists want to protect it.

Haha, though horribly worded. I agree, that really bugs me when people say stuff like "What about the people that live nearby!" Hello! We are talking about a vast field of arctic tundra, 100's of miles wide.

11-01-2006 20:49:11
No shit, there are like 500,000 people there.
What was so horribly worded about it?

It would be extremely offensive to any environmentalist (Which I hope don't begin to pop up and start arguing this topic, which seems to be the trend in a few touchy topics I read)

I really don't understand these people who insist of campaigning on behalf of the wildlife or the environment. I mean, why the fuck would anyone want to keep a beatiful part of the world......beautiful?
It just doesn't make sense to me. I would much rather just drill the fucker and seep as much oil out of it that I could, just so that I could make the oil executives richer and then up the price of gas so that everyone has to pay more. then in 50 years when there are none left, fuck it, we can just build some nice McDonalds or Wal-Mart's over the top and everyone will be happy.
I can't wait until there isn't one natural part of the world left, where we can look out of a window and the grass has been replaced by concrete and the birds have been replaced with closed circuit television cameras. That's my Utopia.

Took the words right out of my mouth. I mean, if everyone thinks its alright to start drilling just because not many people live there, then we can slowly expand and start fucking up the rest of the natural things. But who cares! No one really lives there.

Think about it. You start drilling there, it's not just a big drill with some men around it covered in oil.
The millions of animals who live there and depend on the environment to live would be put in a lot of danger. This is just for the Polar Bears
[quote321501abed]li Disturbance of females while denning could cause them to abandon cubs.
li Death, injury or harassment resulting from encounters with humans.
li Damage or destruction of essential habitat (e.g., feeding, breeding and especially denning areas) by dumping, dredging, drilling and construction of platforms, pipelines, roads and support facilities.
li Contact with and ingestion of oil and other contaminants (e.g., ethylene glycol antifreeze, heavy metals, organochlorines, etc.) used in oil production.
li Attraction to industrial areas with subsequent habituation to humans and increased control actions.
li Harassment (disturbance) by aircraft, ships and other vehicles (stress/overheating when fleeing, interruption of feeding).
li Detrimental effects on the polar bear's main source of food, ringed seals, due to impacts of oil, noise and other contaminants.
li Increased hunting pressures due to greater access.[/quote321501abed]
