I'm DLing the top files on thepiratebay.com and they are going soooooo slow. It's my first time with BitTorrent, and i thought this stuff was real fast! It's done like 2mb in 15 mins...
Thanks

if your router (if you're using one) is on DMZ, speeds should be ok.
in other words, make sure ports required are opened wink
For eMule(which is nothing like torrents), i have to manually open some ports for it to work.
maybe not enough seeds?
for me, if i set transfer speed to low, i download pretty stable and fast sometimes, where as, if i set transfer speed to high, its not always fast, it takes too much bandwidth as well.

It depends on seeders too. Thats why I use Newsgroups...

You might need to forward the port on your router to get it to connect right.

Yup.
Speaking of which, I was downloading something the other night and I was getting speeds of up to 900kbps. My max is usually 400kbps at the most, it was crazy.
I've noticed that for some reason if I download late at night, it goes faster (alot faster) than during the day.

Less people on your node. I get around 700 during the day and late night 900.

Everytime BT is brought up me and TSJ are like, "that sucks, I use newsgroups )"...

And if you sign up for newsgroups, and want to use newshosting.com (the one I use). You could sign up under my affaliate link and I could get to 100$ quicker. I already have a whole 9$ accumulated in my affaliate account!

Before forwarding ports I got like 10-15kb/sec, after i'm downloading at 700 - 1mb.

How do you "foward ports", I think this might be my problem.

How exactly do you "forward ports"?
The speed I get on torrents varies, so I'm curious as to how I can make it faster.

Bittorrents...start slow then go fast stop complaining ;) but i dont use bittorrent that much anymore...used too
And or depends on seeders...and leechers on the specific torrents

You have to get on your router and you probably want to have a static IP. If you can do both those things I can help, if not its too much work...

The router is downstairs, and how do I tell if I have a static IP?
I'm a total noob when it comes to networking and stuff like that.

If you didn't set the router up then you probably don't have access to it, unless you know the username and password or someone in your house does.

We had some guy come out and do it, I'm sure the password is written down somewhere where I could find it.
My parents are technology-impaired, so if I just say I need the password for something they would give it to me.

OK since BT has been more popular 6889 has been blocked by a lot of ISPs. Pick a random port like 45678 and forward that one to your computers IP. THEN, go into Azureus and go to Tools > Options > Connection and make sure your "Incoming TCP/UDP listeni port" is set to that same port (45678 or whatever you used). I set my IP to static so each time I boot up my DHCP doesn't give me a different IP and I'd have to forward it again...
superintendent
12-01-2006 02:34:22
So what your saying is I just change the 6889 to something like 45678. Should I keep the "BitTorrent" and everything else the same? And is my static IP the same one as when I go to run--->command--->ipconfig?
Also, thanks for helping me.
