So me and a few people I know were talking about '50s music today, and we started talking about which era was the best. They all said the 50's and 60's are the best, and when I said that I thought the 80's was the best, they thought I was crazy. They claimed that no good music was in the 80's, and I wanted to stab them......

hehehhehe

80s sucked ass.

40's or earlier? What would that be?

"80s" is such a broad category. Twisted Sister is "80s" but so is Depeche Mode, and you couldn't get two more [i87238b574a]different bands[/i87238b574a]. )

Exactly. Some others think Huey Lewis and Springsteen, and still others would say Pet Shop Boys. It was a really mixed up decade musically.

I think of the smiths, U2 and joy divison

its all what you look at

every era of music experiences a period where no one likes it before it becomes classic again.

Late 60s/Early 70s was the peak of music...

70's/80's..

But since I can't choose both, I just picked random..

It was 80's.

Thats one of the reasons the 80's was so great, there was such broad music, I mean Slayer, Metallica and Ozzy, and then theres Tears for Fears, Joy Division and The Cure...Oh how I wish I was alive in the era...

EDIT Oh yeah, I forgot Michael Jackson and Blondie...

I voted 60s, but really the 60s and 70s. I was born in the wrong decade because I would have LOVED to see Hendrix and Zeppelin live. (

I really have a hard time picking between those groups. I can't settle on any given one. All of those decades have plenty of memorable music which I still listen to on a regular basis.

I can't really decide here....

There's too many I like to choose. I was an Audio Engineer for years, its tough not to appreciate all kinds of music.

I love Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennet, Dean Martin and all of the great big band stuff too...Tommy Dorsey, Glen Miller.... it goes on.

I also love most of the 60's and 70's, the Beatles and the Stones and Zeppelin.

I can't deny the 80's for Metallica and U2 and a slew of other music I grew up with...including big hair poser music.

The 90's are responsible for the electronica I like as well as the new sounds of metal and Rap which are excellent. So how can you turn down Korn, Garbage, Kid Rock, Rage Against The Machine and Public Enemy.

It's almost irresponsible to choose. We haven't even touched Jazz and blues and R&B, the Motown sound...geez...i'm rambling now.

10-01-2006 17:51:08

Rise Against, Anti-Flag, ew.

In my opinion, each era has it's high points; the 60s had Dylan, Hendrix, Beatles, The Who; the 70s had Pink Floyd at their prime, Led Zeppelin, The Doors; the 80s had Guns N Roses, U2, Queen, Joy Division, The Cure; the 90s had Nirvana, Alice In Chains, RATM, Oasis, TOOL; 00s have Death Cab, Postal Service, Interpol, and so many others.

It's impossible to pick a best one.

yep, but you have to admit that most of those eras also had thier share of bad points too. wink wink lol lol all in all the 70 were much better...out of the "classic" sounding music of the 40-60s....and the birth of most of the kinds of music we listen to today.

Jake

The late 80s and early 90s also brought with them the rise of Detroit techno which was quickly embraced in Europe and the Europeans went crazy for it. They developed the techno sound throughout the 90s and into this decade along with everyone else whose ear it caught.

There isn't much music out so far in the 2000s that has really caught my ear outside of electronic music. Some modern rock is cool but not a lot, IMHO.

I like a lot of the indie stuff too, I don't like following the crowd... Or the sell out bands.
