This probably only matters to Tivo users, but Tivo just announced their series 3 box at CES. It will come out sometime in 2006 and support HD dual tuner with dual cable card support. Maybe I'm a tivo geek but I've been waiting for this for a long time. Now I don't have to resort to crappy generic HD DVRs.

Anybody else care about this?

I'm so fucking happy I might die. Dual tuners is what really makes me happy but cable card is cool (don't really understand much about it if someone can enlighten me) and the expandable through an external SATA drive is freaking genius. TiVo might have just put themselves back in the game...

I don't have Tivo, but i do love my HD DVR with Time Warner. It also has dual tuners and external SATA expansion. Might not have all the features of TIVO, but i get it for free. P

cablecard is great but it has known issues. it is still a new technology and they havent worked out the kinks yet. i also hear they are a bugger to get from the cable company.

I don't think the on-screen menus and on-demand services work when you use a cable card. Might be wrong though.

Thats the DirectTV HD Tivo. Originally priced at $1000 and buggy as hell. This one works for cable, digital and analog.

I have Dish Network with a DVR thing. You can record two shows at the same time cause it is hooked up to two TVs. It gets filled quick though. I always have to delete stuff off of it.

Not buggy at all. The new DirecTV DVRs are buggy but we've had our DTV HD TiVo for almost a year and not 1 problem...

Glad to hear that, I'd heard somewhere they had encoding issues.

Not that I've seen. Ours is really nice. I hear the MSRP for the TiVo Series 3 might be $800 shock Its worth it to me )

expect huge rebates on them though. they won't sell at that price when comcast and timewarner are renting them out on the cheap.

Is that who TiVo is partnered with? I'm still confused how it'll work with cable cards and such but I guess I have time to figure it out...

same here...fortunately my dad got this pretty good dvd-r for christmas (for a good price too... lol ) now he records shows...movies...specials...whatever he wants and then records it from the dvr straight to dvd. that way he can still watch them anywhere and he dosn't waste his space on the dvr. i don't know exactly what brand and model he got, but if you're interested i can find out for you

No, I was referring to generic models.

The cablecards are like digital cable boxes built into a pc card. They decode digital television but can be plugged in to cable card ready tv's and now these new tivos to eliminate the need for a box.

Oooooooooooooooooh! I get it. Thats tight.

I know TiVo is partnering with one of the major cable providers and I think its Comcast...
