i'm researching this issue right now but i thought somebody might know some facts that could help me out. Here's the deal. I'm going to live in Costa rica for the next 4 months and I'd love to have a cell phone there. My old phone (Motorola MPX200) is GSM so I think that will work, and the cell service is supposed to be decent there. I currently don't have any contracts with any companies. Most of my calls would be to the United States but maybe a few local now and then. So maybe the prepaid cards, if they work internationally(buy in CR?)? Would the phone need to be unlocked or anything, if so, anyone know how to do that? btw i used to have cingular/at&t
thanks for any help

The mpx200 is triband, and will work in CR since their gsm band works at 1800MHz. I'd say buy a prepaid when you get there and use it in your phone but make sure it's unlocked (call att/cingular to unlock - they should do it since you got it form them and you're out of contract). You can also buy a cheap unlocked phone off ebay, or a cheap locked nokia and unlock it easily.

called at&t and they "don't have any of the unlock codes". Anyone know a fairly cheap site that will do it
