Alright, I'm gonna build a PC for the first time and I don't want to pay for Windows XP... I am a mac guy but want to start gaming. I hate XP and don't think it is worth buying and Vista is coming out soon and I'll pay for that. So, how can I get it for free? I have an old XP disc for my parents' desktop, could I use that?

i go through usenetserver.com but i use Newsleecher to download articles. i buy newzbin by the week but i buy it the same day as my billing cycle. i have 21 days left.

you know, assuming you can get your hands on a CD, Microsoft gives out free licenses for XP home & Pro... There is a certain phone number you call, and say a few choice words, and they read you off a new license. Use that to install it off of the borrowed disc or download or whatever.

It's a side effect of having licenses that expire after a certain time period... they have legitimate users whose licenses expired, but their computer crashed and they need to reinstall... This number was set up for them.

Did anyone else know that?

tmber, I just heard something about this. I heard that you can call the number saying you reinstalled XP and you need to re-activate it your old license #. Make sure it's at least from the same IP, so if it's your parents computer has one lic. and you live at their house...then you should be fine using it. Just tell them you formatted. A tech told me this, but I'm not sure about the 'free' lic....hm...

You're over thinking the problem. You just say you've lost your license and you're reinstalling. They give you a new license and then hang up. You can activate it whenever, wherever, and to whosever name you want to.

I've done this twice now (for legitimate reasons, of course), and the MS rep did not even ask for my name. nothing... just read me a new license and told me to have a nice day.

Never had a problem, I have found it is posted within 1 day of the rls or less. Plus most of the stuff I dl is not new rlses, just random stuff I like. I use to dl all the 0day shit like cams and TS and TCs but they are such shitty quality that all I dl now is dvd retails or screeners.

all i get is dvdr's as well but i am a music junkie. a lot of the music on usenet has been posted at least once before. new releases are often posted like 15 times before it fades away. also, renaming mp3's bugs me because it takes away the credit of the release group that took the time to rip it.

Does anyone have a working, crackable version of NewLeecher?

Every one I've tried crashes on startup, expires after a few days or has the downloads capped. I would search for it on NewsLeechers, but there's something getting in the way of that. cry
