i was on the downloads section of microsoft.com and it wanted me to download some tool to validate my copy of windows. i found a few ways to get around it but i dont think i did it right or they are just out of date. i tried greasemonkey, trixie, and some tool that i ran in windows 2000 mode. has anybody gotten this to work?

Dont need the hassle?
Well Microsoft made the check as an add-on so heres how you disable it Wink
Goto Tools > Manage Add-ons..
Select "Add-ons that have been used by Internet Explorer" from the dropdown menu
Now find the "Windows Genuine Advantage" Add-on and disable it
Restart IE
Now goto Windows Update and get your updates
