My hubby and I are looking to take a short trip to New York City at the end of Jan. Just for a few days, since we live in PA and it's not that far away. We'll probably just wander around sightseeing. I've been up there plenty of times but he hasn't. My question is for those who live in the area/ have stayed there a lot - where is a quality, inexpensive hotel? It doesn't matter where we stay as long as it is not in the boondocks. I was hoping to find a place for < $100 a night, but looking around it seems most in that price range are kinda crappy. We will [i553dedfbf1]not[/i553dedfbf1] use a place that does shared bathrooms. Any insider knowledge?

psh, less than a hundred plus your own bathroom? theres a challenge. you may want to consider staying outside of the city.. perhaps newark or jersey city. both places being very close to the city via train.

you can look into hotel pennsylvania.. its right across the street from penn station. ive stayed in the portland square hotel before, although, if you need your own bathroom, this isnt the place for you. was under 100 bucks and is right in the heart of times square. tourist's dream.

My parents took my brother and I to NY in January 2002 and we stayed in a RedRoof Inn just next to broadway for about $100 a night. It was very central and the hotel wasn't that bad too.
