Has anyone had any success disputing an unauthorized charge w/ AOL?

I was charged $60 after I called in and canceled before my trial period was over. Now they claim that they put me on like a 2 month extra period and can charge me. Fucking AOL.

P.S. I canceled before the trial was over in November of 2004.

I've heard you should just say the charge was made by an unauthorized minor and they will reverse it.

That would work if they haven't flagged the account with the information.

AOL is still being stupid after they had that fucking lawsuit against them?
Some of the worst customer support ever IMO.

Yea, both me and my mom tried really hard.

These guys on the phone are paid to be a pain in the ass. Would saying something like "I will take legal action" work? I didn't say that cause I think they probablly get a lot of angry customers and they're used to that kind of talk.

Ask for their name, employee ID, and ask to be forwarded to a supervisor/manager/etc.

theysayjump

28-12-2005 18:56:39

Yeah definitely make sure you get their names and ID's, but also just don't take their bullshit. Just keep telling them and telling them what you want to say or to be done, don't let them talk over you or talk you into anything else.

You aren't obligated to do anything else or stay on any longer than the agreements that you signed up for.

pieces of shit, aol is a bunch of middle easterners who you can't understand and get paid $50 a week. When you call AOL, you're actually calling india just 1-800 without the fees

MOST of the time I've gotten Indian people from various customer support things. Not all, but most.

EatChex89

I got an Indian person, I was about yelling at the person harshly and then they finally started to budge a little. I'll have to go through it one more time when I do AOL Spyware.

The OP is/was talking about calling AOL about an unauthorised charge on his card, not about how to cheat sites/offers or cancel offers.

28-12-2005 22:00:21

Yup, same thing happened to me stackmjwiz. They told me they would extend my trial period cuz they were able to see that I hadn't actually "used" the service. Then I see a charge on my CC from AOL. I'm talking to them tomorrow lisighli

Why dont u just fax a cancelation form? I hate talking to them too.

29-12-2005 02:24:38

I just made a claim with my bank showing them my phone records that I called AOL within the trial period and they refunded me.

damac

29-12-2005 12:40:29

never refunded my sister. i swear the fax thing is just a ploy to send you a card in the mail you may never get.

anyways they made her write a letter to a seperate department for a refund without a phone number and no way to track the case, anyways nothing came of it for her.

I've always just told them that I am moving and that my new location had internet/email included and I wouldnt be needing it. Still had to be firm and tell that to them my "situation" a couple of times, but it has worked twice with AOL now. Do you think they know when looking at our file that we signed up through a freebie site? If so, that may explain the bad customer support.

i got a dude from india and took him 10 minutes to get my account name right... then i asked him to cancel and he kept persuading me to stay with aol and try to cancel later on in the trial period. I told him firmly that I want to cancel now and that I do NOT want to stay on the trial and that i was not going to use the service again anyways. It took me 2-3 times saying that until he finally cancelled and i got a email in my aol email account saying i was cancelled.

haha, i told him that i was moving to antarctica to do some research. He did ask me if i could get a connection down there, and i told him that all i had was satellite phone. he said it may work w/ satellite phone, and that i should keep the service and cancel after i go to antarctica and see that it doesn't work. But i told him... NO .... and then he cancelled it. The guy i had was a tool.

Back in the day tho, if they find out ur under 18 they cancel it. Is it possible to lose cred for doing this.

Ps. im not going to antactica peace.
