Anyone know any good ones that are rather easy to use and that are free? I told my friend I would burn him a copy of the 40 year old virgin...

thanks in advance

This Help! forum is really only for help issues that are freebie related, anything else can go in Off-Topic. I'll move it there since it will get more views.

Do you mean an actual burner or a program to rip a DVD and burn it?

I'm thinking he meant software since he asked if there are any good ones for free. shrug

Go buy a DVD-DL disc and then use that to just make a direct copy of the movie. You do not have to rencode or anything if you use that, but the DVD-DL discs are like 1-2$ each so it is still cheaper then buying but expensive at the same time.

it sounds like your looking for software that will copy a video DVD. but the title of the thread suggests you're looking for a dvd burner. shrug

I still use DVD Shrink to copy dvds. http//www.dvdshrink.org/what.html It's free, and it works great. You can exclude certain parts of the DVD (foreign audio and subtitles, etc) to save on space or reduce the amount of compression done to the video.

Otherwise, if you looking for a burner. Most of the name brands are gonna work just fine. I personally like the NEC's but others like TDK and Liteon, Sony etc etc. Check the reviews on www.newegg.com and shop around.

I use Nero, coupled with AnyDvd. Works great for me.

If you're lookin for something to convert a DVD to divx/xvid/etc check out FairUse Wizard. http//www.fairusewizard.com/lang_en/

It's SUPER easy to use and FREE! No more dicking around with a dozen different programs like Gordian Knot, dvd decrypter, and avisynth.

Others worth mentioning AutoGK, DVD Santa, dvdrip (Linux), HandBrake (Mac), and Mendcoder (Mac).

DVD Shrink is great because most DVDs are DVD9 and DVD-R are DVD5. It'll compress them for ya...
