My brother left for Christmas and I need a few songs off his computer ( I have his permission). I can't get ahold of him because I remembered he has a windows password on it. If I go there is there anyway I can get into his computer? If I take out his Hard Drive and make it a slave on mine can I get into it that way? Any Ideas?

yes if his hd is the slave, the windows password won't matter. but if its the master you'll have to log on his windows.

just make sure not to delete anything while it's the slave ;) could mess it up.

It's the XP password where when you start up you have a bunch of users and you click on the user you want to log onto and put your password in. There's only one user though on his.

it doesnt matter.

if its the slave HD, you don't log on it's windows. it will just show the drive and all the files on it.

wrong, if his xp account is passworded u wont be able to access his files without some advanced security tweaking even as a slaved drive.

easy solution

when his computer is booting press f8 and boot into safe mode. Then log into the admin account and go to the users. Select his user account and remove the password. Reboot to normal mode and enjoy access to his account.

JOSHBOX, I currently have a slave HD that used to be a computer. i went in and went into the documents then music and took all the songs out before I formatted it and left it as a second drive.

Try it, it worked for me..

Im a tech... 99% of the time, previously passworded xp accounts data cannot be accessed from another computer without changing the security access information in xp pro or media center edition.

I took out his HD and put it into mine. I can see most of the stuff on his computer but I can't get into his folder under my documents. When I click on that folder it says access denied which I guess means I need his password. I'll try Josh's suggestion.

If I go under safemode and take off his PW and do my thing I can go back into SM again and turn on password again right and it'll have the same password as before even though I don't know it? Or will I have to put in another password?
