I'm a BIG Byrds fan. I like all the instrumentals in that band and one guitar in particular (from the song My Back Pages) I cannot conclude what it is. If you don't know the sound of the birds, look up the song "My Back Pages". The guitar solo in that is incredible and it might be a telecaster but I'm not sure. Any help would be great.

look for pics of the band live and you will probably see what kind of guitar it is.
edit looked at the pic and it looks like 2 of the members have gibson les paul's.

Yeah they're famous for using Rickenbacker 12-strings, so that might be it.

I have a tele, I love it. You get a very distinct tone and sound with a tele though.
I would almost always reccomend a strat though because of the wide variety of sounds it can produce, and it's realitivly cheap cost and high resale value.
Tele gives you great country sounds. I assume you aren't looking for this though. You can also get some great reverb, delay edge style play out of it. Which is what I mainly use it for. Think coldyplay, U2.

i think he's looking for the sound of a semi-hollowbody.

I know you want what the birds were using but i would highly recommend Tom DeLonge guitars. I have a Tom DeLonge stratocaster and a Tom DeLonge gibson hollow body. Bolth are very good guitars but I think i like the TD fender the best has a better punk sound and look to it.

This is my dream guitar. Nothing special, I've just always wanted one. Gibson Firebird.

But there are also Rickenbackers. AMAZING sound, beautifully built but kind of on the steep side.
