Panasonic FX9
Canon PowerShot SD450
Casio EX-Z57

So i'm debating between the 3, currently i'm most tempted by the panasonic one, since it does use a Leica lens. Anyone wanna steer my otherwise? P

sd550 pwns face. it takes pics SO fast if you turn off the review mode. its like 2 shots a second almost i swear. sd450 is same thing but only 5 megapixel instead of 7. I have 550 and got my gf a 450 for xmas.

This wont be my primary camera. Its in addition to my Digital Rebel XT

Things i care about for this 2ndary camera

Nice LCD screen
Small
4-5MegaPixel
SD Card (No CF preferbly, cause laptop has a built in SD slot)
Good lens is an added bonus

I just sold my bulkier Canon S2 and bought the SD450. It pwnz!! The screen is very big and nice, quality and controls are very good, and there are some nice visual effects that SD400 doesn't have. I'm loving it. Oh yeah, and the screen is not only bigger, it's thicker. Digic II takes very fast pics as JOSH said.

You got rid of the S2? o

Thats a pre-Dslr camera..... ?

yeah i know, i've been having battery problems with it, where it wouldn't like my freshly recharged batteries and die right away. also it was too bulky to carry most places, and i'm not THAT much into pro photography. at first 5 months ago i thought that's what i wanted, but now i realize i want a small camera instead. got rid of it on ebay for more than i bought it for though so it's all good P ($384 bought -> $404 sold). bought the sd450 for $212.

After the XT i want something uber small

Features i like on the SD450 (just too a comparsion look)
Lowest (Min) shutter speed out of the 3 cameras
Best Macro (3 Inches)
AiAF TTL 9-point or center (Auto focus points)

Reasons i like the Panasonic
Image Stabalization
1/2000 shutter speed (500 faster then the Canon, though not really needed, i never use over 1/800 on my rebel)
Best flash range

I have a SD300 and I love it. I'll stick with Canon for a long time. I used to have a Sony and the Canon is 100x better. Nice pictures, great battery life, and its small. I'd go with the Canon PowerShot SD450 ...

I'm buying the Panasonic (Panasonic Lumix® DMC-FX9K) for my girlfriend for Christmas this morning. The in-depth review at dpreview.com is excellent, and cusotmer reviews at Cnet and CircuitCity.com are very solid as well.

I don't think as many people trust the Panasonic name as Canon et al., but the Leica lens, optical image stabilization, and external styling are the best fit for what she'll use it for.

I agree. But my girlfriend already has a pretty heavy-duty analog camera that she uses for all of her serious photography. She just needs something stylish that she can slip in her coat pocket when she's out with her friends.

That actually looks pretty sick too. I guess for the extra $50 I got another megapixel and a nice Leica lens. Eh, I don't want to second-guess myself. It's paid for already.

SD450. Hands down. Panasonic and Casio are shit cameras, but no matter what you put next to it I would reccomend the SD450. It's the most popular camera we sell at Best Buy, I sell about 5 a day, definitely check out the color accent mode (think sin city but with any color)

With only a 3x lens, you don't really need IS.

Yeah there's really no need for IS on anything other than a DSLR since the majority of P&S (that I know of anyway) don't have a great lzoom, or won't really be used in situations where IS would come in to play.

hehe, the S2 that I sold had 12x optical zoom and IS... and IS was really needed there. IS is amazing, but u dont need it for shit on the 3x zoom, true. BTW, after trying soft screen protectors from eBay, I got a hard one as recommended by a friend from www.daprotectors.com . Put it onto SD450 today, and wow, it's really awesome. I feel like it's wearing a bulletproof vest. Fits and installs much better than the crappy soft ones too.
