DO NOT BUY AN EMACHINE!!!![/size5dc406b311]
Anyone at any store will try and sell you an emachine because its their job but ask anyone their honest opinion off the job and they will tell you how they are the shittiest computers made.

Did you read the review before posting? How can this be shitty? Look at the specs, what can go wrong with that?

general rule is stay away from emachines... but that looks like a pretty good system. I had an emachines back in the day and it wasnt THAT bad. If you are just going to use it for photoshop and programming flash that should be fine.. and the price is right. I say go for it, i do however find it funny that the programs you will be running will be doubling the cost of the machine.

Every eMachine I've ever used was a total piece of shit.
Yeah, I got my Dell which is 2.8ghz and 512GB ram for ~$300 on ebay about a year ago. Waaaay better than that eMachine.
JOSHBOX
11-12-2005 00:25:02
Lol dell is not better than emachine....
Anyway. Yes, the specs are good. SPECS. Not the quality, they probably have some half ass 10 cent motherboard with "integrated x200" graphics and a 5 cent dvd burner. Every component is bound to fail within a year or two. I work as a tech at best buy where we sell emachines and Emachines are about 20% of our broken computers that we service next to dells 40%

Hmmmm... What to get besides this? I dont want to break much higher than $600 and I have no interest in games on this machine (Maybe a little roller coaster tycoon smile ) And I really don't need to burn DVD's If I decide I need to, I don't care if it's slow.

go with a low end HP.

Dude, people complain about eMachines so much, but I have had 2 emachines in the past 5 years(not upgrading because one broke, i just neeeded a new more opewrful computer)
They've always run really well for me, and are very affordable. I'm on an eMachine right now, which has worse specs than the one you listed, and played World of Warcraft fine, even with the integrated graphics card.
The thing that's bad about eMachines is - they're all integrated. It's really hard to upgrade anything, except for memory, on them. They're made to be thrown out in a couple years, instead of upgraded in a couple years.
I still definately like eMachines, they've always worked well for me, especially for the price.

Emachine parts are basically parts other companys dont really want, thats how they are that much cheaper.

Note he just said his emachine broke...
Cash4Cookies

he said NOT because it broke, because he needed a more powerful one. Honestly eMachines arent really that bad, just take care of it, it will be fine. Look guys, hes not trying to spend alot on a computer, and the computer there is pretty decent. I bet you cant find a computer with that good of specs for that price. Of course, you get what you pay for, so if you realizes there may be problems, there might not be, i say go for it.
JOSHBOX
11-12-2005 00:46:55

i dont see why really, i mean he will be getting a faster computer, and any problems that happen with the emachines can probebly be fixed super quick and easy. How many people bring there computers to your tech department because its "running slow" and you just run some spyware removal, and the problems is fixed. Or for people who cant access their email, or use IE and get a jillions of popups. If the guy knows anything about computers, he should do fine with that system, and you have to admit, spec wise thats a pretty nice system. Plus the eMachines I had never did me wrong.

I was trying to add memory and accidentally broke the stick I was putting in, took the one that came with it, and put the broken one in so it didn't even look broken. Of course, the computer wouldn't turn on, and I brought it back ;)
Many people bring back computers when they break things on their own..

if you gettign a computer someone else builds, i say go with a dell outlet computer or somethign like that to cut down on cost. and for editing stuff, get an intel computer (unless you gettting a dual core, in which case get an AMD) since they often are faster for the kinda stuff you want to do.

abs = overpriced... i looked into all the online custom computer boutiques and i'd have to say that they charge a lot more than what the parts are worth.

I have an emachine notebook with an amd 64 bit processor and I've never had any issues. By the way, emachines may still be owned by gateway, correct? Some of the models are pretty much the same thing.
JOSHBOX
11-12-2005 12:17:54
gateway makes the best laptops IMO and hp makes the best desktops IMO.
This coming from a guy who works on sonys, emachines, gateways, compaqs, toshibas, dells, hps, and everything else under the sun on a daily basis. I dont know why you guys arent taking my word for this shit.

I have a low end HP and 2 decent Dells. The HP has surprised me how it hasn't had any problems. Since it was a really low level one I just bought a $60 video card on TigerDirect and runs all the games I need to run.

I really want the flat panel though.
theysayjump
11-12-2005 17:00:51
You can get a better computer than that for the same price from somewhere else online.
It depends if you want a half decent computer with a flat panel monitor, or a much better computer and stick with the monitor you have. shrug
ConfusedPigeon
11-12-2005 17:14:44
Well, the monitor I have is on a laptop... But I do have a flat screen monitor also (It's not a flat-panel though) and it's HUGE! I want a smaller one. If you see any amazing deals on a pc, please give me the link. Thanks.
theysayjump
11-12-2005 17:24:24
Well there are sites where you can configure your PC to have what you want and what you don't. You don't usually have the monitor included though, but like I said you get a better PC for the price than what you want to pay for that one above.

i'm building a $600-$700 dollar computer righ tnow for a friend and it has 1 gig of ram and a mid range graphics card (evga 6600gt) since all the parts are on sale and stuff. much better than buying any dell, hp, compaq there is. only problem is that he's using pirated copy of xp, then again, so am i... ) no problems thus far

my e-machine broke after 3 years. I think a couple caps on the motherboard blew out. I can't say it was bad though it worked great for me for 3 years, no I didn't play games or run large programs, and I payed less than half what most my other friends paid for their pcs. Using an older comp from home, but I could buy another PC better than what my friends got back then and still have paid less for both that and the emachine than they did.
