Desperately need help...

I recently got my 60gb Video iPod from freepay, and despite my best efforts to protect it, I managed to scratch it up pretty badly. Believe it or not, here's what happened
I was sitting here listening to it and noticed that it had started to accumulate some fingerprints, etc., so I decided to go out to my car and get my aluminum case for it. Deciding not to put it in my pocket for fear of scratching, I instead held it in my hand. We recently had a little winter storm here, and sure enough I stepped on an ice patch in the parking lot (2 feet from my car) and fell with the iPod. It hit the pavement face first and is now pretty scratched up. The screen isn't that bad, but there are 2 or 3 (permanent) blemishes on it now.
I cannot tell you how frustrated I am currently. The irony of it all is what kills me.
Anyway, what would you guys recommend as far as addressing my new problem? Is there a way to remove scratches from an iPod? What if I were to sell it on eBay with 5,000+ tagged (with album art) songs--what do you think I could get for it in light of the scratches?
Any and all opinions welcome. Please help me!

Its not the looks that matter in an iPod.

well, if that were a viable option for me, I wouldn't be looking for help.
but thanks anyway.
I wouldn't talk about scamming a company on a forum that's based upon trusting other users NOT to scam them.

iCleaner actually worked pretty well for me on both plastic and metal scratches. You might want to try it.

i feel ur frustration, sounds like something that would happen to me, its so annoying everytime u look at it, my idea, if u have that thing where it will always bother u, sell it on ebay, spend the extra 50 and buy another, or suck it up.

i think the better question is what the fuck is your problem? if you have no intentions of trying to help, don't respond. but i bet it's liberating for you to come on an internet forum and anonymously talk like badass.
kdollar, thanks a lot for the helpful response. do you think I could get $300 or more for it on eBay? I mean, it definitely has some scratches--not just hairline scuffs, if you know what I mean.
Admin, I'll check out iCleaner. Thanks for the tip.
Also, does anyone know anything about using Brasso metal cleaner on an iPod? Apparently, many others have used it with good results, but I'm a little skeptical (and I don't want to make it worse).

Lol... Yeah I guess that would really suck. I'd be mad if I were in your position too.

It'll scratch like hell anyways. I kept mine in the case it came with forever, and it's already so scratched up I barely use it anymore.

When my nano got all scratched up I used some Ice Creme on it; worked like a charm. You'll need the heavy-duty Ice Creme M if the back is scratched or the front is really badly scratched, though.

Brasso works good on the front.
It wont take out heavy scratches, but it will remove alot of those minor ones.

Do you have the little protective covering over it?

thanks for all the helpful suggestions, guys.
i actually tried brasso on it last night and it helped significantly. it did not take out the heavy scratches (like someone suggested above), but it did improve them and took out some smaller ones.
while i'm not nearly as upset as i was when i orginally posted (it had just happened, and i was incredibly frustrated by the fact that it happened when i was going out to my car to get its protective case), i'm still thinking of trying to sell it on ebay. I'm just not sure how much it would go for. i wish i weren't so obsessive, but i can't help it.

Well when you come on an internet forum whining like a woman about a scratch in an object that plays music...
If you were my friend in "real life" you'd get the same response. So suck a dick.

Gotta love the old toothpaste.
If you put a "little" bit of toothpaste on ur iPod and start rubbing your iPod with a soft cloth in a clockwise motion, it eventually cleans up the little scratch. It takes awhile to get it cleaned and ONLY works if the scratches are minor. From the way you said it, it doesn't sound like the scratches are deep. So, if u don't want to buy anything to clean ur iPod, toothpaste is the way to go.

Maybe buy one of those invisible shield thingies I hear they work pretty good.
On a side note i just keep my ipod in a pocket by itself seperate from keys phone etc. Also I could give a fuck if its scratched up by a fucking tiger. As long as I can see see and listen to what I wanna hear

Mine doesn't have scratches anywhere. And I've put it in my pocket a lot and in my backpack.
I prefer the iAudio X5L over the iPod Video. The battery life pwns the iPod Video. And it has better features like recording off of the radio and listening to the radio.
Do you only have the X5?

Whatever I didn't get a free ipod to worry and whine about scrathes. I mean if that is something thats going to bother you, then buy the damn invisible shield.
Happy isn't a viable option though?
WTF its a free fucking ipod, it still plays music.
I on the other hand take care of my ipod, i didnt spend the money on the shield bc i don't care about a couple of scratches. It doesnt protect the ipod from breaking if dropped which is all I might care about.

yesssir i have a x5l that i got from getipod4free, i mean yea it has better battery life than ipod video and more features and way better than sound quality but it doesnt have DRM playback, id3 tag browsing and the joystick is horrible to find songs if you have 8000 songs on your x5

Yes, I agree and what pissed me off today is I saw a sign in a store that said "500 free songs w/ purchase of $40 or more", then underneath it says "Works w/ mp3 players and iPods". It's like WTF? I thought that's what iPods were. Every1 likes to separate them from all the other mp3 players x
