i found out from a ps3 forum that none of the places are accepting preorders until sony comes out with a definite date, which is supposed to be at CES next month or this month or whenever that is.

im gonna preorder 2 from gamestop and hope to god I get both on launch day. That way I can sell 1 for like 1300 and cover the cost of my PS3+games with a little profit on the side 8)

I doubt the Ps3s will be as sold out as the 360s. For one, that aren't being release near Christmas.

well i still am not sure if i'll get a ps3, but more than likely if there are enough games on that I am interested in i'll buy one. one thing I don't understand is why everyone is thinking it's so cool b/c of the blu-ray thing....no one knows which format will win out blu-ray or hd-dvd and as such i don't know why people would get the ps3 mainly because it is able to play blu-ray discs (but then again if you like the games why not just get a blu-ray player also just in case it does win out....). I just don't know if consumers are ready to swap media already since its just now that dvd players are becoming so cheap and most people own them......but that's just my opinion

How about get both? Thats what I'm going to do...

On a seperate note, this Blu-Ray vs. HD-DVD battle sucks ass. One format won't survive and I'll be fucking pissed if I chose the wrong one (

Actually I can almost guarantee that they will be sold out like the 360 as IBM is the supply chain management in charge of the releases of the xbox 360 the ps3 and the nintendo revolution and they purposefully under supply and release in waves to create more hype

You're forgeting something, we are comparing the 360 to the PS3. Not the PS3 to HD-DVD. PS3 has blu ray, thats capability to watch HD movies, thats more than the 360 has to say for itself. Even if blu ray loses out, owning a 360 doesn't win that battle.

I wouldnt be surprised to see it be the one that wins though. Sony is very smart pricing their system the same as the 360. They ensure consumers will afford to be able to buy it, then I bet the lower the price of their HD tv's. Make them priced to sell under $500 and such, then the sale of Blue Ray movies. It's a brilliant idea, if move enough ps3's for cheap they stand to make tons more selling High Def TV's, and winning the High Def format war.

Plus even if consumers aren't ready to swap those of us that have had HD tv's for 4 years, are ready to watch DVD's of that quality. PS3 caters to us more than the xbox is.

Knowing microsoft, they will probably release a HD-DVD add-on in a year or so forcing us to go out and buy it to play all the new games.

Just my little rant though...

They will never make games in HD-DVD, unless they gave out HD-DVD freely. They may however create a addon.

They already have a way to play HD movies with Xbox 360, and hopefully this will later be expanded but probaly never to DivX and XviD.

Xbox 360 > PS3

well if you look at Sony's track record when it comes to new media, they havn't done so well

beta max
mini disc (i still use mine cuz i can take it when i dj and record straight from the mixer)
DAT

im only talking about consumer use on these products...i know that DATs are widely used in the recording business...the beta max was a superior format to the VHS...but we all know what happend

how about the gran turismo series? tekken? metal gear solid? thos are all sony exlusive games. there are already over 100 confirmed titles for ps3 and since sony is an asian company, they have more asian backing. that is where all of the good games come from anyway. the only decent games xbox has is the halo series and that is all the care about and all they will talk about at e3 this year.

blu-ray will win. FOX said that is was a one-sided war and blu-ray was going to win. look at all of the manufacturers standing behind blu-ray (hp, samsung, pioneer, sony, etc). all of the major companies that can influence the market are behind blu-ray.

justinag06

02-12-2005 11:34:44

Yeah but right now all the big studios are lined up against it, if I remember correctly. The media can just as easily influence the market

Wolfeman

My understanding is that their are big companies on both sides of the Blu-Ray v. HD-DVD fight. And always remember this, just because something is better doesn't mean its going to win. People know DVD and have no idea what Blu-Ray is and that will hurt. And Sony hasn't been too lucky trying to bring a new format out (Betamax, MD, etc.)...
