It Really Makes Me Mad

So I was basically going to drop all of my classes but like 3, ones that I actually go to and can pass, and then do packets and online classes and crap like that -- and get a job to pay for doing that. Because I can do that, right? Going to class and failing isnt working.

So I go to a meeting with the counselor and tracker today to tell them that, but they dont want to hear that. They insist that I still go to class and try to pass. Well that's obviously not working, is it?

So what do I do? My parents wont listen either, and I will not graduate if they dont let me do what I want to do...maybe I should just eff off school all together and get a full time job.....

Maybe you should quit your job and finish school. How can you not manage going to school and having a part time job?

I dont have a job right now, the problem is that I have no determination to go to school. I am way behind, by the way, I need to make up like 10 credits and I am a Senior.

I strongly suggest you get as much work done as you can. Finish as many classes as you can. Don't leave school because you're behind, there are others who don't even start high school. I wonder what those people are doing.

Just deal with it and get your stuff together. When you're done, you'll feel way better and you'll see that it wasn't as big of a deal.

You have to finish school. I know it sucks, and that it's just a piece of paper. But having spent a few years in the professional world (2 of them as a recruiter), I can tell you that it's one of the most important pieces of paper you'll ever receive.

I know that, and going to class just isnt my way of doing it. I think I can still graduate if I do the work on my own at home with packets, but I dont think I can do it going to class.

Finish school. You've come this far. I had some bad semester and changed majors. I'm not going to be done with my undergrad till next Spring '07. I'm on the 6 yr. plan, but that doesn't matter. Just as long as you finish. Plus, that will be a lot of money wasted, and if you have loans, 6 months after you not being in school you'll have to begin repayment. Just some things to think about.

What is it about going class that you can't bear?

Do you get enough protein and iron? Exercise?

hehehhehe

01-12-2005 10:05:41

I suggest you go see a doctor. If you don't have the will to go to class (which sort of means you can't bear going - put another way), there's something wrong. Not that I am someone who likes to medicate, I am actually against it but I guess some people really need it.

I also don't understand why going to class would make you fail, as it's usually the other way around.

Yeah, and make sure you're compensating correctly for a veg diet. A lot of kids don't do that.

I thought we were talking about finishing college here until I looked at your age mnx12.

If you're at risk of not graduating you should put all your energy into getting your credits straightened out so you can.

I'm sure the older folks here (like me) can tell you how important it is to have a high school diploma.

You may have friends (like I did) who went the route of GED, but if you're a senior without any other obligations (like a child, job that supports your family, etc) or other extreme situations where you need to bail on school you shouldn't get a GED.

Buckle down and get things straightened out. You've got about 6 months until graduation? That should be plenty of time to get things straightened out. I had one credit that would have prevented me from graduating, but luckily my french teacher was nice enough to bump it up just high enough for me to get my last credit. Build relationships with the teachers of your problem courses if you haven't already.

But, most of all....Enjoy your last year with your classmates; even if you hate them all, you'll likely miss the whole high school institution a few years from now, trust me.

yeah not to sound like your mom or dad, but seriously stick it out and finish school....it'd do you better in the long run as those who want to hire you will notice that you finished school which does take some determination, and of course you can get the ole GED, but you'll have to take tests for that anyways, just finish up with school as soon as you can, graduate, then if you want get a full time job....then you may be happy with what you're doing and that'll be great, but you may realize you want to further your education to get another job that requires the higher education level........anyways, just my advice.......and besides you will get better pay the more educated you are.

plus keep in mind that most people don't like school either, but it's just something they do because they know in the long run it's for their benefit.

Exactly. Not to play armchair physician (or nutritionist, or psychologist), but it almost sounds like a case of mild clinical depression. Some of that can be diet-related.

I was vegetarian for 3 years, by the way, and I recall how difficult it was to balance my diet.

good observation. maybe this is diet related... shrug

mnx, have you had Quinoa before? it's an interesting food. it has like all of the essential amino acids. it's good mixed with a little brown rice and some organic salsa or pasta sauce.

If your haing a "determination" problem revolving around going to class in high school than you seriously are in need of counseling , way beyond that of a freebie forum.

& how could you assume a full time job would be better then going to class a few hours a day?

college grads are haing a hard time finding jobs nowadays ; what are your plans for life ?

Quit whining , get it done somehow by any means necessary -thats the best advice anyone can offer you.

Yeah I have to pretty much agree with everyone else here. I was considering dropping out of both HS and college growing up and I'm glad I didn't. It's a bitch, but if you want to get someplace in life and your family isn't already wealthy, you're better off taking care of school now while you don't have too many other things to distract you.

I've had problems with anxiety for a good portion of my life, and I was able to get through high school and college, although stressful. I'm not sure I understand how you just don't have the "will" to go? There has to be more to it.

Thanks for the tips guys, I am thinking about what im going to do. And no, me being vegetarian has nothing to do with it. However, I have an appointment with the doctors for some blood tests, I might have diabetes or something similar.

Well good luck. Some girls I knew that didn't eat much meat (or much of anything at all) were often diagnosed with anemia.
