My Hard Drive just went bad and I need a new one so I'm just wondering what everyone has. Also, what do you think about putting in a 7200 RPM drive when the original one in it was 5400. Will there be over heating problems?

i dont think it will overheat. but a 7200 will produce more noise and require more power, meaning your battery wont last as long.

hey,

I jsut went through the exact same situation as you.. my old one went bad, and I needed to fet a new one.

7200RPM drivs run warmer, and shorten battery life.

4200 and 5400 RPM dirves are roughly the same except for speed.

You have to ask yourself how important you start time for windows and your loading time for games is. If you done mind waiting 5 or so extra seconds, then you should do what I did, and go for a 5400 RPM drive.

So form there, all you ahve to decide is capacity. Thats all personal preferene, I chose 60GB

As for manufacturer, I believe that they are all roughly the same. I have heard good things in general about hitatchi drives, so that s What I went with. All equal spec drives usually have equal prices, even between manufacturers.

In the end, I went with http//www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822146042

Eh, I have a 4200 drive and my laptop boots up very fast. Go with a 4200 or a 5400.

a 7200 rpm dosent take that much more power. I compared a 7k100 hitachi to my Toshiba 4200rpm and the wattage different is minimal.
