My wifes IBook is almost totally full and is starting to lag. I have a PC so I don't know all the ins and outs of her Mac. Is there something similar to defrag that I can run on it. I know she has an ass load of pictures on there too. How can I pull all the pictures off in one step. Isn't there a way to export the pics to disc and it will just say insert another disc when the first one gets full?
She has Explorer and Safari. She also put Norton on there but I didn;t think she needed too.
Any help would be awesome. Thanks guys!

I'm not sure about Macs, but on my PC, every night I do a Registry Clean with TuneUp Utilities, WinXP Manager (as well as their JunkFile cleaner) and Registry Mechanic. Then I scan and clean it with Spybot and Ad-Aware Pro, then PCBugDoctor, then CCleaner and then PrivacyEraserPro.
To Defrag I use O&O Defrag and RegistryDefrag 7.5.
You'd be surprised if you did all of those how much faster your computer runs.

Does that erase all your cookies? I hate having to re-type my username and password on every site.

It depends on whether or not you mind Warez.

You can set it to erase whatever you want. I use Firefox and it saves all my usernames/passwords personal info etc, and I just set PriveacyEraser and CCleaner to not touch any Firefox shit.

definitely uninstall norton. there is no point in having it. macs dont get viruses. also, make sure that you completely exit a program you are not using so that the arrow is not underneath the icon in the dock. go to applications > utilities > activity monitor and see what is using all of the cpu.

Yeah... any of those programs that clean out a PC's registry wouldn't work on a Mac since they don't have registries (from what I hear). I'm sure Google would have a thing or two relating to cleaning up a Mac, though.

I recommend Webroot's Windows Washer. It's pretty good and you can get a 30 day trial from their website.

IPhoto is using 30% of the memory. Is there a way to get these photos onto a CD in one lump without moving each file individually?

Depending on what you use to burn CD's then yeah you can do it.
I use Nero and all you have to do is select which kind of disc you want (Data disc, if it's just a backup and nothing fancy), then browse for the pictures you want to add, click finished and then burn.
Then when you have them on CD you can delete them from your computer. I don't see why you need to have iPhoto running though if you aren't using it.

macs do a sort of defrag everytime you install a new program
any antivirus or similar program is junk for a mac.
you can install a larger hdd and use an exteral enclosure to backup current data or have somebody at the genius bar help you out if its under warranty. (go on a weekday when they are bored and they won't care at all)
console is your friend, use him to search and destroy.
if you have your music on your ipod delete it from your computer and put it on a pc, or manually add new stuff.
you can export all your photos to your ipod if you have ipod photo+ then you can delete them and put them somewhere else.
you can run osx off your ipod if you want. its fun.
if your photos take up 30% of your hdd i doubt they will all fit on one cd no matter what you do.
