Shoppers waiting in line for the new Xbox 360 video game player scuffled outside a Wal-Mart Supercenter when a manager improvised rules for who would get the game first. It took more than 10 police officers to restore order, though no one was arrested.

A crowd of about 300 people were waiting late Monday for the game to go on sale at 1201 a.m. Tuesday. Some of them had waited 12 hours when a night manager said the Xboxes would be sold on a first-come, first-served basis, instead of using a number system devised by customers.

"That's when all hell broke loose," said Ben DiSabatino IV, a 23-year- old Bear, Del., resident, who had been waiting in line since 4 p.m.

"It was like a mosh pit," 30-year-old Michael Pearman of Newark, Del., told the Cecil Whig.

Some customers were knocked down and trampled, though there were no serious injuries, said Elkton Police Lt. Lawrence Waldridge.

An Elkton police officer assigned to monitor the crowd called for backup. In all, it took more than 10 officers from Elkton, the state police and the sheriff's office to restore peace.

Then Wal-Mart decided to cancel the sale and police ordered everyone to leave. A store employee who wouldn't give her full name told the Cecil Whig that some Xboxes were sold later that night.

The Xbox 360 premium system includes a hard drive, wireless controllers and cables for high-definition TVs. It retails for $399[/quotef4bf123fb4]

What a stupid idea to just announce right in front of 40+ people that the store would sell the Xbox 360's on a first-come-first-serve basis. What did they think was going to happen?

LOL I said this weeks ago. Nothing builds hype like people fighting in front of stores for it...

imagine what will happen on ps3 night..... im gonna have mine reserved and guranteed on launch day so i dont have to deal with such gheyness

I'm sick from standing out in the cold at Circuit City, so I am definitely preordering. Yeah, EB rips you off though.

best deal? its lot like any store is gonna give you discount jsut for ordering early.... unless by best deal you mean a store who is more likely to actually HAVE a Ps3 come launch night....

theres still a chance sony will make more than enough for everyone.....

I just want to make sure I'll have it launch date and I'm not stuck with a bundle with 3 games I don't want.

I bet people are buying them thinking its going to be like the 360 launch. People will fight for Revolutions )

circuit city is gay... their employees were handing out xbox360 pamphlets even though they were sold out of xbox360's evil

They had us lined up and I'm 21 in line. They come out and tell me that they only have 18 and I am not getting one. I WAS PISSED!

haha that sucks, sounds like my luck, and i woud of flipped and probably burnt down the store

i will definitely preorder ps3 sometime this week. and those of you that do preorder at gamestop, pay it off right away. i got bumped up the list on 360's because i paid it off the day i reserved it. even ahead of those that preordered 2 months before me but only had $50 down.

so if i preorder at gamestop and i pay full price i will have a guranteed good spot?

Anywhoo has an official release date even been given yet?

It says April or March on Gamestop.com. I don't know though, I see it getting pushed back for Christmas.

it would be better strategy to wait till christmas when people are most willing to open up their wallets and throw fianiancial sensibility to the curb... but thats a whole year from now (
