So my free ipod is covered under warranty until December 29th, and they are having a grand opening of a new Apple store here (finally, hehe) this weekend. Anyways, my ipod is broken (i get the folder) and i dont have a receipt, obviously, and i dont have the original box, all i have is the ipod. So, my question is, if I just take the ipod alone to Apple store, will the repair it for free, if at all? Thanks

If they determine the iPod wasn't damaged by you (they look very closely for scratches and dents), then they'll use the SN from the Ipod as proof of purchase, at least in my experience.

Theres only light scratches, espically on the back, nothing deep.

then you're fine. i took a friend of mine into the apple store and they exchanged her (pretty beat up) 40gb 4th gen, no questions asked when it wouldn't mount.

sweet, im so glad, because i was just about to buy the warranty so i wouldnt have to pay to have it shipped, and then i found out that they bulit an Apple store, hehe
EDIT One more question, do they replace it or fix it?

yeah last week my gf and i took her ipod to get it fixed cause it had the sad smilie and the broken folder icon. they tested it and then gave her a new one without question....i actucally went today because my sisters ipod wasnt working it turned out her hardrive was failing so they gave her a new no questions asked. Apple has had amazing customer service since i started using their products i am very satisfied
i also applied for a part time job at the apple store for the holiday season..i already have a job

Wow, im really excited for the store to open now, ill probably spend a few hours in there looking around! Im such a nerd.
The greatest part about this is I am going to probably sell the one they replace it with on ebay for $200+ and then pay the difference to get a 30gb video ipod.

i had to send my ipod to the apple store awhile back. the battery went bad and i didnt have to pay shipping for them to fix it ). prepaid both ways. that was back when they had the 18 month warranty. not sure if they still do though.

its not always a refurb replacement... just depends on their stock. the friend i took got a brand new one.

Even then though, I bid at the last minute. I hate when people bid right when an auction is still new because that causes everyone to spend more. My guess for the reserve is 215?

i've heard that apple has given out 60gb photo ipods in the past in replacement of broken 40gb ipods because they are not making those anymore. Or whenever you send in a broken ipod, they send you another broken ipod, they send you back a upgraded one (60gb).
