so i was about to call samsung to see what can be done about my majorly overheating hard drive, went to take it out so i could have the serial # ready and....1 of the screws holding it in is stripped to death.

i tried looking up ways to get it out but all i found were superglue sumthing else to it and then turn that, or drill it out. im willing to try the superglue thing if that would really do it but...any other suggestions?

Is any of the screw head protruding? If yes, try some needle nose pliers. If not, turn the PC on its side, apply pressure to the screwdriver (screwdriver should be facing DOWNWARD) and turn. If not, super glue or gator grip it

or hit it with a hammer as shown in picture A

Try a magnet. Some Screwdrivers have magnetic heads, but even if it is un-screwable, you may just be able to get it out.

You don't want to to use some fucking industrial sized magnet, just something strong enough that might remove the screw.

Lol I was thinking the same thing. WTF?

If you read what I said before you commented it would make sense.

SHe says, 1 of the screws holding it in is stripped to death, therefor it would have to be unscrewed or removed some other way. Some screwdriver heads are magnetic, so what's so roll about using a magnet the same size or strength as a screwdriver head?

just cut the screw off and if your putting it in I only have 1 screw on my hdd.

could us a metal drill bit and drill right down the center of the screw...

Rubbing a magnet up against your hard drive...smart.

Just screw the stripper

I think what the original poster is meaning is the head of the screw is stripped. Not the threads. So even if a magnet were OK, i don't think it would help at all.

No I know. If it was threadless it wouldn't stay in there at all. I know magnets and HDD's don't mix, I'm just saying that even if it did have a head, it would have to be unscrewed. Some screwdriver heads are magnetic, and I doubt that the size and strength of them would do any damage to the HDD.

Therefore being safe to use, head or no head.

yep its the head thats stripped. and it is sooo stuck in, i tried the plier thing already ( also tried the pressing really really hard thing. wah (

would rather avoid magnets and drills if possible. i found this set online of drill attachments made for rusted, stripped, or broken screws (and the picture of the broken one is one with half the head missing haha). so i might try that. but then i need a drill...and i think the hardware store is closing soon (

do u guys think super glueing wuold be strong enough to hold while i turn, since its in really tight?

I don't think any glue will work at all.
Make sure you have a big enough screwdriver. A short, stubby scredriver, with a big enough head is what u need. But i have those removing bits you are talking about, and they do work pretty good. Also, a locking pliers would be good. Clamp them on really good, and turn.

SuperGlue should work. Put it on the end of a Pencil or something like that and then stick it to the screw straight away. Give it a minute and then turn.

ok, i have come back from the hardware store(s)! they never heard about the drill attachments i was talking about ( but i got a small flathead cuz i had (notice past tense) 1 good line still. then home depot sent me to pepboys and they gave me this lil thing where i drill a tiny bit, then put this tool in it and it screws right out...sure...

so i just tried the flathead and it worked!!! and by worked i mean, the rest of it was unscrewed, so it moved, and i fucked the screw up more ( 100% stripped now. onto the tiny tool...

so...who wants to hear how stupidly easy it was to take out?

...its called a wire cutter...and its called chomping in on the sides of it then turning...then smacking urself in hte head for not having thought of it many hours ago

even a medium sized magnet used on an exterior screw is not going to fuck up your hard disk. i mean, there are neodymium magnets INSIDE the hard drive, and those are some of the most powerful on the planet ounce for ounce. and
